I was alive. But why? And how? No one knew. I knew I should be dead right now. All the others died immediately when this happened to them. And I literally felt my heart stop for a while. But then it started to beat again. Did miracles really happen?
Let's go back, before any of that happened.
My name is Ellie Cassandra. I have lived a very normal life, went to school, hang out with friends. I had a family that I lived with. No boyfriend. Nothing unusual happened in my life.
"Look Ellie, he's looking at you!" My best friend Miranda whispered in my ear. I turned to look at this gorgeous guy. He was a couple years older than me. We went to the same school. He was also my neighbor. I had a crush on him, had it since I was a kid. He was so handsome. And cute. Platinum blonde hair, a little messy usually. Deep blue eyes that I could drown in. A little mischievous smile. You probably know the type. Everyone knows the type. And he was popular of course. But his looks weren't the only thing I loved about him. He was also very nice. He helped people. He never bullied anyone. He was everyone's friend.
He smiled at me and waved. I blushed and waved back. Then he turned around and continued to talk to his friends. The football team, of course. I know, he sounds so cliche. But that was just who he was.
"You're blushing!" Miranda giggled. "Shut up" I said and rolled my eyes. "Sometimes I even wonder why I am friends with you" I said. She just laughed. We always teased each other. We've been best friends since forever.
So as you can see, normal life. Normal day. Nothing unusual. How could I have known something would happen? In my life it never did. This day was just like every other day in my life.
I was outside, walking home from Mirandas when it happened. It was a warm evening. I didn't even have a jacket or a sweater with me. I didn't need it. Usually in Lake Hill it was warm at this time of year. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. Lake Hill? Really? Yep, really. A legend says that Lake Hill was founded by two people, Lydia Lake and Thomas Hill. They both wanted the city have their name so they compromised. And so it became Lake Hill. No one actually knows if it's true or not.
Anyway, I was walking home. And then I had a feeling that I wasn't alone. I turned and looked over my shoulder but I didn't see anything. But I still felt very uneasy. I wasn't scared easily so it was weird for me to feel this uneasy suddenly. I started to walk a bit faster. Then it happened. I still don't know exactly what "it" was. I couldn't move. I just stood there. In the middle of the street. Then I felt it again, I knew I wasn't alone. Someone, or something, was behind me. I couldn't see it cause I couldn't move at all. But I felt it staring at me. I felt its presence.
Then I felt something different. Something inside me. A very cold feeling. Do you know the feeling when it's winter and very cold outside. You walk outside but all you want is to go inside, have a blanket covering you while you drink something hot? But you can't because you're not home yet. Well this was nothing like that. This was much worse. I wasn't cold outside. I was freezing inside. I felt my heart beats getting slower. I felt nothing but cold and fear. I was terrified. What happened to me? My throat was so thick that I could hardly swallow. It was like someone had filled my insides with ice. First I was afraid that I would die. After a while I hoped I was dying cause then this would stop. Then I felt my heart beating for the last time. The coldness took over everything inside me. My heart was frozen, inside a giant ice cube. I fell to the ground, eyes open, horror on my face. I wasn't afraid or hoping for death anymore. I was dead.
