As I began to peer through my small window into the expanse, I couldn't see any day-light seeping through overhead as I usually could in the mornings. I could only see the moon, dimly lighting the area around me. I guessed that the authorities had forgotten to change the moon to daylight. Suddenly my aimlessly wandering thoughts began to refocus on my oncoming day. The Ardayton Eight would be picked today. I began to think of the possibility that I would be picked as sect 7's Ardayton. As the excitement penetrated my mind's many thoughts, I slipped on my grey one-piece and the black knee-high boots that came with it. I lifted the hair nozzle and chose the signature Lady's hairstyle of a simple dark brown bun. I walked out of my small prison cell-like room and headed through the open hallway into the auditorium.
"All Rayulights, to the auditorium," president Cloud's voice blared through the speakers. As I arrived, I took a seat next to my friend Rain:Sect 7; posting 18; brown hair; blue eyes; and an overly tight bun. Just like most of the girls seated in Sect 7.
"The mysterious Relly finally shows her face. Well, I almost thought something might have happened to you," whispered Rain in a sarcastic tone. "Maybe, just maybe try and show up on time to something this year?"
"Hey, it's not my fault. The authority forgot to change the moon. You're lucky that I even woke up to the moonlight."
"Rayulights! May I have your full attention," President Cloud spoke to the crowd.
"Good morning, President Cloud" every Rayulight murmured in reply to the President.
"As you all know, once a year the underground authorities choose one individual from each of the eight Sects to partake in an assigned Ardayton. These individuals will rise to the ground above in search of an individual that brings negative attributes to the community above. This role comes with extreme honor and sacrifice. Those chosen will need to be trained and sent out into Relem as soon as they are ready. You will return to the bunker as a victor, or you are given the option of staying in Relem to live as part of the high esteemed community. The ten participants in this year's Ardayton are as follow: Sect 1:Rayton. Sect 2: Steller. Sect 3: Telerence. Sect 4: Oceanic. Sect 5: Dew. Sect 6: Dayton. Sect 7: Relly. Sect 8: Riker." Roars of cheers encompassed the auditorium. The name one could make out the most was Dayton, the Rayulights Dimond boy. He was a strong, good looking kid with a posting of 19. He had blonde shaggy hair with glossy blue eyes. No one was surprised to hear his name, and no one was mad about it either.
"Ardayton's please head to the doors to begin your training. You have five minutes to say goodbye to loved ones. Your things will be gathered by a government worker. Thank you Rayulights and good night!"
"Good night president Cloud," all Rayulights replied in unison. People began to file out of the auditorium, hugging the Ardaytons goodbye. My eyes were darting from person to person, searching for my best friend Rain. I had to hug her one last time before I left for good because Ardaytons usually never are seen again. I saw Rain searching for me in the crowd, and I shouted her name. She abruptly turned and ran into my arms.
"Rain, I've never told you this, but you're truly like a sister to me. I don't know what I'm going to do when you're gone. Please, please if you have a choice choose to come back. I know its a sacrifice that I shouldn't ask, but I can't help but be selfish. Your the only family I have."
"I will Rain. I'm coming back. Don't worry." I knew I wasn't really coming back. We both did. But there was no need to poison our last moment together. suddenly, I was jolted away by a man with a mask and a government uniform, forcing me to a single large door. As we were leaving, we could hear the beckoning goodbyes of our loved ones. We all knew we would likely never see any of them again, but we had to do this for our people. To protect from the evil ones outside destroying Relem. The official continued to pull me towards a large door in the auditorium. There were 8 doors in total, one for each Ardayton. The large doors creaked open all at once, almost like the doors of a castle opening for its king. I was shoved into a small, plain, white room, nothing on the walls except a chained bunk bed hanging low to the ground. I quickly turned around to see the door completely shut. I was alone. Several hours past with no one in sight. All there was to do was sit, and reminisce about the past...over one hundred years ago, Relem wasn't even a thought in anyone's minds. It was called America before Relem. It had freedom, and equality, and amazingly beautiful people. Something I dream of at night. This is what president Cloud is working towards. He wants the evil people captured, and the good people protected. Relem came to be after one tragic day. On this horrid day, The veil of the clouds was lifted, and the sky opened to display a secret world, unknown for the world's entire existence. These beings from the worlds beyond fled into the small innocent earth. There was no hope for people to live. Before all hope was lost, several people quickly headed to their underground bunker. They invited many of their family and friends to join them. After numerous years of building underground, my home was created. The unlucky many stuck on the earth in the apocalypse were forced to give up their ways, and do as the new individuals ordered. I've been told of the horror stories of how they lived, were killed and tortured by the horrible monsters from the other world. After several years of torture and anguish, the land people began to fight back. They grew savage and tired of poor treatment. This commenced the War of the Worlds. For years, war was ravaging the earth, while my ancestors built a home underground. While those above us went insane, we grew civilization. They killed, we lived. President Cloud was the voice of reason for those in the bunker. He knew without structure there would be no sustained civilization. This is when Sects were created. Sect 1 is the government. This consists of President Cloud and all those who work under him to create the laws and regulations we co-hear to today. Sect 2 are the workers. They plant and cultivate the food we need to survive. Sect 3 are the strength, fixing and creating any infrastructure in the underground bunkers. Sect 4 are the creators. They make small businesses like candy stores and clothes shops to give some excitement to our days. Sect 5 are the Brains. They are mathematicians, science geeks, and English majors who study and create new technology to use in the bunkers. Sect 6 are the beauties. Yes, as strange as it may seem, president Cloud gave the beautiful people of the bunker free will to do as they please, never working a day in their lives. They are often on the few television series we are allowed to watch. Hence, the love Dayton gets as the bunker's diamond boy. Sect 7, my people, are those who care. We are doctors, nurses, therapists, and so on. Lastly, Sect 8, are the driven. They fight for equality and peace in the bunker. These include police, firefighters, and protectors. After the Sects were contrived, president Cloud would often proclaim that "every Sect is needed, and we are all equal in what we do." With this new form of structure in the underground bunker, Cloud's famous words, "structure beats all," came into existence. We were taught that without Sects and the ever bounding structure they give, we wouldn't be here today. He knew that by encouraging things like specific brown bun for ladies, grey one-piece with black knee-high boots, and the small square rooms, he was making sure that insanity never ensued. President Cloud worked for 25 rigorous years to keep the underground people safe from the ravaging war above ground. After these 25 years had passed, the war had been won, and Relem was formed. The Land people were victorious, winning us our world back. Those who were left of the other Worldly beings fled in hopes of being spared. Although the land people ended the war victoriously, the disastrous years of war and tumult didn't bring peace but brought chaos in its place. The land people had no rules, no government, and no structure. President Cloud realized there was no way we could return back to earth without being tortured for our lack of participation in the war. He knew many of the people who fought in the war were crazy, and in order to return home, we needed to destroy those of whom were getting in our way of arrival. For this reason, the Ardayton was formed. Every year one person from each Sect is chosen to return to the earth and find one of those who are against the bunker people. Our task is to find them and bring them back to the bunker to be imprisoned. Or so we think. This is where I come in. Twenty years after the winning of The War of the Worlds, the twentieth Ardaytons were chosen, me being one of them. I knew I had to make president Cloud proud. Suddenly, a loud jolt from the door brought me back to reality. "Relly," a young, buff man pronounced.
