I sit in my favorite patch of flowers, not to far from my village. My name is Abagail Harper. I am 16 with long dark brown hair that reaches mid thigh, I also have green and brown eyes. I am the daughter of a farmer. My father is in every way shape and form kind. I also live with my sweet, warm hearted wiccan mother. We are a perfectly happy family, though soon I won't be the only child. For my mother is pregnant. We are middle class so are house is just right for my little family.

I look out upon the flowery field to see bee's buzzing and butterfly's. Nature has always been my second home. I look next to me to see my family's sheep herding dog ,Maximum, I got him when I was ten, he was only a small puppy then. Now he is full grown and my best friend, beside my friend of ten years, Josh. I lay back in the flowers and look out onto the beautiful, blue sky.

Ten minutes later, maximum starts barking wildly. "Maximum, stop." I tell him as I follow his line of sight. And there they are where the edge of the forest and meadow meet. I quickly stand, it is a man, I see his golden hair in the sunlight. He is tall with broad shoulders, almost two sizes bigger than me. I can see he looks no more than eighteen. His clothes look ragged and he wears a bear fur, in the middle of summer? He glares at me from a far. "Sir do you need help?" I ask. He does not  respond, only stares. I then see him reach for something silver. It looks like a sword of some kind. I stare on in terror, before I turn to run. Luckily I hear no foot steps behind me. My dog follows behind me as I run to my village. I feel my dress skim my legs as I run. Finally as I run out of breathe I see my village. I stop and breathe a sigh of relief. Maximum sits down on the ground huffing as soon as I stop.
I look around to make sure that man did not follow.

All the sudden I hear screams from my village. I run in the directions of the village, as I get there I see berserkers everywhere, I To try to stay unseen by staying in the tree line. Max follows behind me. I look into the village to see the carnage. When I look I immediately regret it, I see one of my fathers friends , Markus, on the ground, on his stomach with a berserker kneeling on his back, crushing his spine. To me all the berserkers look the same. They have on little armor, they and big, buff and tall. And they all have at least shoulder length hair and bear skin coats. After I watch my dad's friend die, I start sprinting to my family's house. As I get closer to my house the horrible carnage gets a little more scarce. This tells me they have not gotten here yet.

As I get to my house I see berserkers standing at my front door. I get maybe ten yards away and behind a tree to see if I can hear my parents. I hear a mans gruff voice, he is speaking in Norse. I can understand most of it but not all. "Marith, tell me where your daughter is or I will kill your baby when it is born just like your husband." I hear a sob rack through my moms body. My father is.....dead. The bile rises up my throat as my blood boils.

I keep myself from barging in the front door and kicking his teeth in. "My daughter is far away from here, you monster!" She screams at him, I try to back away so I can run and maybe I have a chance of finding josh so he can help. I only get five steps before I hit something hard, I turn around to see the blonde man I saw in the woods, his ocean blue eyes piercing me. But before I can run he grabs me and yells something in Norse. He drags me to the front of the house where is see my mother being held down by a big burly man. They have an exchange of words but all I can hear over my pounding heart, is "Father it's her." And "Take them both." While they are distracted I dash to my mom to make sure she is Ok. "Mother are you alright?" I ask my voice straining. "Yes." She breaths out heavily.

Before I can ask what is going on, the blonde man grabs me again. And the other grabs my mother. I try desperately to get out of his grip. I can tells he is getting annoyed, just when I think he will let go he picks me up bridle style, and he says in my language, "I suggest you stop or I will have to get rough with you." His deep voice rumbles even my chest. I look back at the road in the direction all the berserkers are heading and immediately regret it. Buildings are burnt to a crisp or in the middle of burning. The market place looked trampled and I see...Josh! But he looks like he is being held prisoner like me. The more I look around the more I feel the tears will fall. Every woman, man and child I knew, were dead, in brutal ways. The tears start to flow from my eyes. I feel the man holding me stiffen. "What is your name, berserker?" I ask weakly as I look up at him. "Travis." He says calmly as he stares blank ahead.

I stare down for awhile as the man walks in the forest with me in his arms. I feel like it has been  hours. And as I am about to fall asleep I see a ship in the distance. I try to stay awake but  exhaustion wins.
