Over the last years, humans are performing activities that are affecting the Marine life. Since the Ocean is a home for marine creatures, it is our duty as humans to preserve the Marine life that is given to us. The Ocean is very resourceful to humans. We can get our fresh fishes and shellfish from it. Humans also mine for minerals in the ocean like salt. And the ocean is also drilled for crude Oil. We get many benefits from the ocean but what do we do to the ocean in return? We destroy it. We leave our garbage in the seashore, we throw our plastics of candies in the ocean and the saddest fact is that many of the fisherman still uses dynamite for fishing. And since some dump sites across countries are already filling up and no more places to throw our trash, some of it are thrown on the Ocean that is far away from the land. Those are just some factors that causes Marine pollution.
According to ecowatch.com; over 60% of Marine pollution is plastic. And the top country that contributes to this issue is China. So what can we do to help in preventing the pollution to spread?
Some countries are already banning the usage of plastics or charge a tax on them. Countries like, Kenya, Mali, Cameroon, Uganda and etc. But even after the banning of plastics, some people would still sell and use it illegally. We cannot blame plastics since plastics are created by humans. So the blame falls on us.
Countries like China and Indonesia won't ever stop producing plastics, so it is up to us to avoid the plastic pollution to spread. There are so many possible ways to help lessen the marine pollution for example: proper waste disposal, less use of plastic materials (there are some restaurants that do not use plastics anymore), Recycle, Support organizations addressing plastic pollution, signing a petition for banning plastics and etc.
If we won't act on this issue, then it will only be a matter of time when our Marine life becomes a garbage lair. Everyone can contribute in their own ways, big or small actions can always make a change. It will always start within ourselves. Because if you won't take action, then who will?
