"We did it guys, we survived 12 years of prison. Can you believe it?" I say to everyone in the room. Ava is laying on my floor like an octopus, Mason is on my desk chair with his feet on the desk, than Noah and I are laying on my bed with his head on the pillows, and me at the end of the bed. All four of us have been best friends since the first day of kindergarten, and surprising we stayed friend until we graduations, which was today.
" It all feels like a dream. We used to it in these exact spots when we were 10 years old. Imagining what it could be like, and now instead of saying 'what if' we're saying 'why not.'" Ava says in a soft spoken voice.
"I couldn't have said it better myself" Mason says as he gets up to get a blanket. As he sits back down he opens his mouth to speak, "hey how about we do something this summer?"
"Like what? We've already done everything on our bucket list." Noah chimes in. I give him the 'did you really just say that look'. He looks at me, laughs, "I mean I guess we always could add to it, couldn't we"
"Yes we can, and we're going to" I look around at everyone and make eye contact with all of them. "So let's get thinking"
The next few minutes are spend going back and forth saying ideas, and someone else saying 'already done'. Here's the thing, my group of friends love to be adventurous, and we love exploring. It all started when we became friends in 1st grade, and we would find hidden places in the playground. Then we would explore the woods, now we sometimes drive all over the state. One thing we haven't done is left the state. Ohh that' an idea.
I shoot up from where i'm laying, "Guys! How about we go on a road trip" Ava was in the middle of a sentence so she's giving me a dirty look. The others all had their thinking faces on, and that made me happy that they're actually considering it. I think it would be a memorable adventure before we never see each other again. I stand up and go inside my closet to grab the big world map I keep in the back. I get it out and lay it out on the floor.
"Look this is where we are, LA, Carolina. If we take this interstate it will take us from here all they way to Oklahoma. Plus all the states between them. Think about it. Us driving on and only stopping to visit new states. it' a great way to hang out before we possibly never see each other again."
"All in say i" Noah says raising his arm in the air.
"I" Mason whisper yells kinda like he is in a daze.
Ava looks unsure, us noticing she protests "but what about the parents? Won't they say no? I mean we would be gone for months without-"
"Oh shut up" All of us cut her off at the same time. She crosses her arms, while shrinking into her chair. She lets out a little 'hump" sound causing us all to laugh at her. Therefore that only makes her make the sound again.
"okay so it's official we'll leave tomorrow. Who's ready to make our final goodbye?"
No one says anything but all of our smiles and happiness makes it o clear. We are about to have the best adventure ever.
