The story is a tragic one, one inspired by the death of thousands of animals, of marine life as we know it. a young girl at the age of sixteen sets out for her first swim in the year 2063. the world is chaotic and filled with trash and disdain, however the girl is hopeful that it has not yet reached the lovely seas that she has only seen in pictures. She took a deep breath fell backwards off the boat that had taken her to the local reef, and splashed out into the open water.

She swam down to the bottom of the reef and started to swim around the rocks when a loud roaring could be heard. she looked up and around to find it, only to see her boat pulling away. her eyes widened in fear. they were leaving her! She tried to race after them, but her foot was caught in something. looking back, she saw a plastic six-pack ring that had slid around her foot, and was connected to the rock. she pulled, her lungs now constricting, and crying for air. she had gone free diving, just to try it, thinking her boat and its crew would stay to help her if needed, however they had not and now she was struggling, attempting to get free.

Her lungs could not bear it any longer and forced her mouth to open, but finding no air still. she tried once more, haphazardly attempting to free herself but it was around her ankle too tightly. as her eyes began to close, she saw a dark figure moving towards her, and felt lightweight before darkness came in full.

Someone was pressing down Rather roughly on her chest causing her to cough and sputter, her lungs now free to pull in air and rather large amounts of it as well. a glass was offered to her full of a pungent smelling tea. she drank greedily before looking at her savior. it was a young boy around her age. his  green eyes sparkled in the sun and his dark hair fell into his eyes. he had tan skin, and large dimples on his cheeks as he smiled, well, cheekily at her. she gave a small smile in return before pressing him or answers.

"where am I?" she asked.

"on a boat" he replied, his voice smooth like silk or honey.

"why did you save me?"

"because I could" he stated. he smirked. I glared at him in return.

"take me home" i demanded and he shrugged and obliged.

the years came and went and soon I turned 25. my protest were finally heard and the governments everywhere was taking action. they cut back in using plastic, and barely produced it now days. i returned home after a long day of work to the man who saved my life all those years ago. he greeted me, as he had the day he saved me from almost drowning.

"We did it" he whispered and I nodded. We did.
