"Here! You are free." He stared menacingly in her eyes, offering her the paper.

Somehow in her heart she already knew something was wrong. But still she couldn't fathom the situation.

"What are you talking about?" She finally mustered the courage to ask.

"Don't act innocent! We are done here." He said harshly. "You can go as you wish. We are no longer related." He dropped the bomb on the newly wedded girl sitting in her heavy bejeweled lehnga. Her dreams shattered within seconds like a broken glass. He disregarded everything before him and left her alone not before saying something.

"You look sexy in this dress but don't fear I won't touch you since you are so pure and my dark nature will just taint you." He had a disgusting smile on his face which made her fear him a little. He was nothing like the man she once knew. "You can act innocent all you want in front of people but no one will believe you!"

His laugh resonated in her ears even after he had left the room.

She couldn't believe that she was divorced hours after her Nikah. She sat just for moments before she found her conscience. With her trembling hands, she picked her phone and called the only person she could think of.

The call rang for a minute before he picked up.

"Hey, what's wrong?" He sounded groggy. She sighed at his concern, thinking hard what she'll tell him.

"I need you to come and pick me up from here. Don't ask any question. Be here in fifteen minutes and call me when you're here. Please hurry up!" She finished in one breath in a desperate tone and hung up the phone.

She knew he'd be befuddled at her request. But she could only rely on him right now.

She looked around in the room and found her only suitcase by the side of the door. She remembered thinking how it was weird that he said she can bring her luggage later on. She now realized there would have been no need for that.

She pulled off her jewelry hurriedly and threw it in her bag. Trying to look less like a bride, she failed miserably. Henna on her hands, heavy makeup on her face and the heavy red dress, anyone could tell she was the bride. She was disgusted by her appearance but had no time to change. She got up and dragged her bag out to the door.

The house was filled in sheer silence. All the noise in the evening had downed with coming of the night.

She remained as quiet as possible praying hard that she encounters no one on her exit. Maybe it was her prayers or that the watchman was just tired with the wedding shenanigans that he was deep in his sleep. She couldn't tolerate more embarrassment. She slipped out of the house with the papers in one hand and the suitcase in another.

She began to walk in the direction of her previous and now again current home. It was weird to think that she wasn't afraid of running into bad people at night. She walked slowly taking her time with her mind full of thoughts.

She thought about the new dreams that had shattered in a moment's time. How could she have been so naïve? She was realizing the signs now that it was all over. Of all the times she had talked with him on the phone, there was no promise of their lives together. He would just talk about random stuff. She remembered him whenever he talked to her there was no affiliation in his voice for her.

A loud screech made her come out of her thoughts and the headlights that almost blinded her. It was his car in front of her. She realized she had walked past the street.

He emerged out of the driver's seat with a confused expression on his face. The long shorts, a loose shirt and his tousled hair were the clear indication that he had ran over to her after she had hung up.

"Are you crazy, Mira?" His voice wasn't loud but his words were. "What is going on? What was the meaning of that phone call?"

"I'll explain everything but before that put this in the car." She voiced morning towards her suitcase.

Before he could anything, she went past him and sat on the passenger's seat. She closed her eyes while he obliged her, thinking hard what to tell him but nothing came to her mind. She was blank.

"Mira, you are making me nervous. Please tell me what's going on? You are lucky Sarah was fast asleep." He said sitting next to her.

At that, she broke. Her eyes balled up with tears and she started crying silently. He waited for her to stop but she didn't and asked him to take her home. And unwillingly he did so.

The ride home was uncomfortable for both of them. Neither of them said a word even though they cared.

Being back in her old room, she felt a sense of familiarity hit her. Her tears increased.

She realized his presence behind her and fearfully looked in his eyes to find any judgement but there was none. She hiccupped and while trying to stop her tears she put forward the hand that was tightly holding on to the paper.

As he read, his expression changed but he tried his best to remain calm for her sake. He put his hand over her head wishing all her sadness and misery to go away.

But all the wounds take time to heal. And some even more.
