Left. Right. Duck. Web. Tumble. Fall. Fail. Lose. Die. The dream, the nightmare, was always the same, down to the last minuscule detail, including the screams of the innocent people around him, forced to their knees, to choose a side. Peter had been lucky enough to make it out of the fight alive, but he didn't consider the win to be one at all; they had lost far too much to be able to celebrate. They had saved the earth, hell: the galaxy, once again, and he had finally been able to help, but the cost far outweighed the victory. Peter hadn't been all that close with anyone who had died, which made it all the more painful for him to imagine how those who had been were feeling. Cap, Mr Stark, the rest of the Avengers, likely feeling a tremendous grief, devastating loss.

He wanted to be able to help, but the sleepless nights made it difficult to be as optimistic as he tended to be, though he managed. He had started taking the night patrols more often, feeling the overwhelming desire to keep everybody safe, even though he was more than aware that everybody staying in the tower could hold their own, and so that he could blame his sleep deprivation on working late rather than admitting than he was absolutely terrified.he had seen enough movies in his life to know that the people the hero loves are always used against him

He woke screaming, again, but nobody heard, nobody came. He was thankful to be staying at the tower; if Aunt May knew he was having nightmares like that there would be far too many questions for him to possibly answer, and he didn't want to put her through anymore than he already had. He wouldn't do that do her. Peter made sure to always stay in contact with his Aunt, and with his best friend Ned too. He knew that it was too dangerous to tell either of them the truth, especially with everything that had happened; he refused to let his only family member, or his best friend, become targets for enemies wanting to get to him. He couldn't afford to lose either of them, and he knew that he couldn't risk letting his weaknesses show.

Spiderman may be a hero to the world, but the boy behind the mask is still only a kid, who threw himself head first into a world he believed that he was ready for, and now he needs to be.
