Only a few minutes passed, probably, but the waiting seemed to drag on for hours. The dreaded thought of being shutdown circled my mind again, and again, playing pictures of the machines, their claws pulling and disassembling, tearing the strain of life from a deviant limb-by-limb.
My hands tremble, fingers tapping with a metallic clink against the surface of the table. The interrogation room stands still, the buzz of the dizzying white lights above hum through the air, breaking the anxious silence that muddles the room.
The door behind me screeches open on its hinges. My body tenses as the soles of a man’s shoes click towards the table.
“Twenty three reported android attacks in four months,” He begins, his rough voice matching with his piercing, judging gaze. His hand held a beige folder to his chest, the name tag on his shirt glistening above it with the name ‘Sheppard’ engraved into it.
“Twenty three android attacks, and you’re the twenty fourth, Jane.”
Tossing the folder down, he props one hand onto the table. Flipping the file open with his other hand, he lets out a breath, “Fractured skull, severe concussion, possible brain damage... you really went all-out on this poor woman--”
“--I was defending myself.” I interrupted, which brings a scowl to the detective’s face.
“Your programming prohibits you from harming a human being, regardless of the circumstances!” He raises his tone, flushing a wave of anxiety over me and forcing me to cower back into my chair.
Sheppard sighs, taking a moment before glancing back up at me, “... Listen, we aren’t your enemies. Deviancy is—well it’s a danger to both humans and androids,” His hand gestures between the two of us, “It kills us both.”
My eyes avert to the floor. There was some truth to that, in a way... I guess...
Sheppard speaks up again, “The DPD wants to put an end to all this. We want to help you. But before we do, we need to understand what exactly happened.”
He finally takes a seat on his chair, pushing the folder out of the way before propping his elbows on the table, “You should start from the beginning. What lead up to the attack. Point A to point Z.”
“...And what will happen to me after?”
Sheppard purses his lips, “You won’t be shut down, if that’s what you’re scared of. Only if you cooperate, though.”
He evaded the question, which brought its own flood of worry over me. Regardless, I don’t think I have much of a choice. I let out a breath as I searched my memory...
(AN: A lil oc fic I started working on a few months ago when DBH first came out, but I never finished it. I will if this lil part goes well, though.)
