Not as famous as Christopher Columbus is Christof Earldó. He is however famous for the discovery of Qua'can.
"Nunca lo vi hasta que estuvo a quinientas yardes en frente a . Un isla con altas colinas y grande ríos. Como pronto descubriría." Was one statement he wrote after finishing his exploration of the island.
I being historical, his ship was named: 'la fantastia.' He was born ,CIRCA, in the mid 1500's. By the time, he discovered the island, it was about 1589 ; hence, is where we shall add our calculations of the timeline.
Though as I should of informed you, Christof Earldó was of Spanish nationality. And the exact time of his discovery was June 30, 1589. He was born into a not very rich family. Precisely, his family was very poor and it was only due to his charming manners did he excel in becoming a discoverer for his nation.
His ship was not very fancy. It was a Snow to be exact. That being a small ship about quarter the length of the Titanic. There were exactly 56 men onboard. Now even a ship that size was still not to be carrying men that low. About 70--82 were the amount that ship should of had, but because he had fought a recent battle out at sea with a French ship and was severely beaten that he had such an amount.
"But even though the island seemed so interesting and suitable for Spaniards, there is a problem, you the king of Spain would not love to hear me write. There are Taínos here. I will do as Columbus and enslave these dark people on vast land for Spain. Though a work like this will take a month for expectations have told me that there is a large quantity of these maniacs on the coast."
However, like Columbus, Christof Earldó had no early or easy landing. Because the Taínos did not seem to trust them. As they were setting out on their rowboats, a few Taínos came out with rock stones and flung them at the Spaniards.
"It seems, your majesty, that these Taínos are no fools and are not alike the ones in Jamaica. They did not let us Harbour and are quite pugnacious. However I have cast them under control like God controling Satan."
Though not Columbus, Christof Earldó was still evil and violent towards the women and men. The Spanish men made a maneuverable position. They fired when Christof cried 'bomber!' After five days of victorious fights the Spaniards had managed to place the weak Tainos under their control and had conquered the coasts that the Tainos had once ruled.
Being a promise to his men, Taino women were given to them to do as they pleased. However, being very upset the Taínan men fought back at seeing their wives being taken from them. Many had refused to work on the estates and threw stones at their masters.
But as their punishment, they were beaten with fists, rough ropes and large boards. There was a funny incident that occurred on a small estate just on a plain. A curious Taíno man was lurking in his master's house and found his master's gun. His master was not off the estate and so the slave, knowing that this could kill, carried it to him in atemptation to kill him. But he held the gun the wrong way and when he had  fired, he had mistakenly killed himself.
So whenever the slaves wanted to harm their masters they would use the sticks and hard stones, meagerly succeeding, and whoever succeeded was always punished either by severe beating or court where they were always given an unfair trial. Some judges sentenced them to stay in the hills with wild animals for days tied to trees or to walk about a hundred times on hot coal. Almost all the time the prosecuted died or suffered severe foot problems.
After three months of ruling Qua'can, Christof finally gave it a name: Luchadores, which is Spanish for 'Fighters' since the island was so filled with freedom fighters. This was where the fight for freedom began, ever since the Spanish docked.
In 1595 when five ships from Spain finally came, Christof Earldó left. It had been six years since he had left Luchadores. The ships were mainly  galleons and schooners. With them, on a Schooner was the first governor of the island. Carlos Seites. He was a stout man and not that old, a man who looked like he was around his early 30's.
His arrival was the first step of Spanish political rule. He was the founder of the first Parliament house which he named,'LA casa política Seites' which meant 'the Seites political house.'
He was not pleased with how the island was kept by Earldó and wrote to the king of Spain:           "I, being a servant of his majesty, king Felipe II of Spain, do wish his majesty well in health and finance. I write to inform you that the one Christof Earldó who had discovered this lovely island, had kept it unprofessionally and vague. The plantations are not built properly and the slaves are not quite mannerable and are stupidly and disgustingly pugnacious. I hereby promise his majesty of Spain, Ireland, Portugal and England that I in all my power will straighten this 'wee--pot' of an island and into a professional colony of Spain."
He also placed in his letter requesting of a thousand well trained and disciplined soldiers to be of national guard and authority. And the king sent them to him.
In 1599, he built the first fort in the east. This was a great opportunity for most people who turned out poorer than in Spain and unemployed. The fort was known as 'fuerte Seites' and was the most popular and strong fort from its birth in 1599--1643 when anther European power took charge.
In 1600, Seites passed a law, with the help of the ministries of slavery and military. He declared that all slaves should be properly sustained on plantations. Meaning they were supposed to wear clothing of cloths or rags and straw shoes to those who behaved.
He also declared that every plantation or estate must have at least one large hut for the slaves to sleep in at night and be guarded with no less than five slave masters.
