Ive been at Rosetta High for about three months now. I still dont have many friends, besides Sophie. I met her the first day and we have been friends ever since. Sophie is a vampire. And I know what your thinking. No she hasn't tried to bite me. Vampires don't do that anymore. At least most don't.

Hey Clara, your crush is looking at you. Sophie said in my ear. Who are you talking about? I dont have a crush on anyone. I said back. She smiled and pointed to our right. There stood Shasta Moonraven, a vampire in our grade. He was almost 6ft tall with long black hair, sky blue eyes and a scar over his left eye.

I dont have a crush on him. I said flatly to Sophie. Okay, whatever you want me to believe. But I see how you check him out when you think nobody is looking. But I mean he is totally hot for a guy so I punched her in the arm to get her to shut up. She yelped and looked at me pouting. Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned and found myself staring right into the eyes of Jenna, one of Shastas fan girls.

Hey Jenna. How you b- I started to say, but she cut me off. I heard you two talking about Shasta. As if either of you two have a shot with him, I mean have you looked at yourselves? There is no way he would ever want a flat chested lesbian bimbo, she said, pointing at Sophie, or someone who is barely a C-cup! So just back off!

She was starting to piss me off. Listen Jenna, not everyone is into big chested blonde sluts who have slept with almost everyone on almost every sports team. We are perfect the way we are. So just leave us alone.

I thought that I had won this round due to the look on her face. I was wrong. She jumped at me and started clawing at me with her French nails. I blocked my face and started backing up, not wanting to fight and get in trouble. She balled up her fist and landed one good blow right to my gut, knocking the wind out of me. I could hear people chanting the word fight. I wouldnt give them what they wanted. She punched me again in the gut, making me drop my arms, then she gave me a right hook to the mouth, then to my temple. Honestly, I thought someone would have stopped this by now. I started seeing stars and tasted blood after that hit to my mouth and head.

Suddenly someone grabbed Jenna from behind and pulled her away from me. Stop it. Youre going to send her to the hospital if this keeps up. The person handed her to one of the officers in the school who escorted her to the office. I looked up to see Shasta standing in front of me. Are you okay? What am I saying, your lips busted and youre all scratched up. Of course youre not okay. Let me help you to the nurse. He put his arm around me and helped me walk, which was probably a good thing, seeing as though I passed out half way to the nurses office due to the blow to my head.

I woke up in the nurses office to voices talking. Is she going to be alright? the first voice, a male, said. She will be fine Shasta. the other voice, a female, said back. You should go back to class Shasta. I can take it from here. Im not leaving until I know for sure she doesnt have any brain damage or anything. Damnit, this is my fault! I couldnt get to them in time! Shasta cursed under his breath and I heard him punch something.

You need to calm down. She can hear you. Its okay Clara. You can open your eyes now. How did she know I was awake? I slowly opened my eyes and looked around. There were two people in the room. The nurse, and Shasta. Are you alright now? Shasta asked. I could see the concern in his eyes. Im fine. Just a little headache. How long have I been out? The nurse spoke this this time. About half an hour. I tried to get Shasta to go to class but he refused to leave your side. I just wanted to make sure she was okay. he said.

The nurse gave me a quick check and sent Shasta and I back to class. While we were walking, Shasta stopped and asked me a strange question. Do you remember anything after the fight? I didnt understand what he was asking.

Yeah. I remember you helping me to the nurse, but I passed out half way. I guess you must have carried me the rest of the way. I blushed at the thought of Shasta carrying me in his arms. Why do you ask? He seemed to be thinking about something. We started walking in silence. I had to say something, say thank you. I opened my mouth to say something but Shasta beat me to it.

Do you want to grab a bite to eat after school today? I know a really good diner nearby. This caught me off guard. Um I dont have any money right now Sorry. It will be my treat. I want to make up for not being able to pull Jenna off of you in time. Free food, and being able to spend time with Shasta. I couldnt pass this up. Okay. Ill go. But you have to promise me that you wont spend too much on me. And I dont blame you for Jenna. I was actually going to thank you for pulling her off of me when you did. Shasta smiled and nodded.

You should probably call your mom and dad to tell them you wont be home right after school. Dont want them thinking something happened to you. Shasta said. It wouldnt do me any good. They are on vacation and wont be back for another two months. They left me in charge of the house and left a credit card for me for emergencies. Shasta nodded and we kept walking. Getting to class five minutes before the bell rang.

Not much else happened in school so I wont bore you with the details. At least not today. After school Shasta and I met in front of the main office. Where are we going? I asked. Its a surprise. Youll see when we get there. I was think that after we eat we could go to my place and study for next weeks test. If you want to that is.

This caught me off guard. Go to his house? To study? This made me blush a little, until I remembered that his parents would be there.

Okay. Im a little behind on my notes anyway. I did miss a couple days last week because I was sick. He nodded and we kept walking.
