It was a cold November morning and the sun was barely rising over the mountains of Tucson, Arizona. It was school today and everyone wished they were sick so that they didn't have to go. At least that's how I feel. I, Alisson Geller, hate school. I mean I love all the popularity and the ways to get involved, but the actual work is a pain.
As I walk to my car, my mom stops me and hands me a letter. "Here, it'll make sense once it's read." "Okay." I said curiously.
I get into my car and start the engine. I look at the letter debating to open it or not. Picking it up from the passenger seat, I sigh and open it up. It was a hard seal but smooth. On the inside the letter was blue and edged with flowers. As I read the cursive writing, I start getting confused. "You are not living the right life." It said. "You are meant to live in poverty and wealth. Especially since you are the potential Queen of Ireland." "What?!!" I scream accidentally honking the horn of my truck. I throw the envelope behind the seat and pull out of the driveway.
I drive to school wondering how far this information could have gone. For all I know, it could have gone so far to notify every branch of security at my school which would registrate me for having a personal body guard. What type of person wants that?
Just as I step out of my truck, a sheriff drives up to me in a golf cart. He parks the cart and addresses me by full name. "I am Sheriff Parker and I will be escorting you around campus." What did I tell you? A fucking body guard in high school! I blank out in fury but snap back to calmly acknowledge his effort.
The hallways were full of whispers as I walked by with Sheriff Parker. I didn't like it one bit. Eventually, I look up from the floor to see my favorite person. Dante Williams, my wonderful boyfriend. I smile a big smile and run into his arms. "Baby girl! Man, I missed you this weekend. How are you?" "I'm alright I guess." I say shrugging my shoulders. "I'll tell you more at lunch. For now, I'd like you to meet my body guard Sheriff Parker." They shake hands and nod. "Why?" He whispers in my ear. I whisper back, "Lunch." Dante nods.
The bell rings letting all the students know classes are starting. My first class is Chemistry. Not my favorite especially since there are a lot of weird nerds. Sheriff Parker leads me to class and says, "Alisson, I need to talk to you about rules that you have with me around. When would be a good time?" I stop and think. "Umn, fourth hour would be alright with me." He nods and walks in the classroom behind me.
All throughout class, my phone kept blaring up announcing my biggest event. "The potential queen of Ireland is alive!" One post on Instagram said. I hated how public it has gotten since this morning.
Dante meets me right outside my class, surprising me. "Have you seen the front page of the school newsletter?" I look up at him. "No. What does it say?" He then pulls out his phone and shows me. Even the school newsletter has the event posted! I slam my locker and strut off to my next class, not looking back to see if Dante was following.
