Starscream had been acting strange again.

The mission should have been simple and quick, The usual standards. And yet, he had failed. Spectacularly.

Now Starscream stood before Megatron.

The air in the throne room of the Nemesis felt heavy, charged with tension. Even the other Decepticons kept their distance as Megatron stepped forward, his optics blazing with fury.

"Starscream, you son of a glitch," he growled, his voice echoing through the chamber. "I have had enough of your failures. explain yourself, Now!"

Starscream flinched, wings twitching nervously behind him. He bowed his head, trying to steady his voice.

"My Lord... please... I can explain, But we must wait for Knock Out."

Megatron narrowed his optics. The request alone was unusual but something in Starscream's tone made him pause.

"Very well," he said coldly. "But you will not test my patience further."

Hours passed.

Far too many.

Night had fallen over the warship by the time Knock Out finally returned from his assignment. He barely had time to admire his own reflection in a polished panel before being summoned.

When he entered the throne room, he instantly noticed the tension.

"Knock Out," Megatron said sharply, "you are finally here. Now Starscream will explain why he failed his mission?"

Knock Out blinked, confused then his expression shifted to alarm.

"Wait... what?" he said, stepping forward. "He was on a mission? In his condition? Is he completely insane? He could have hurt the—"

He stopped and looked around if the others had a Clue what he was about to say but no one gave any impression that they knew about it.

"...Oh. He didn't tell you."

Megatron's voice dropped into something far more dangerous.

"Tell me what?"

Without another word, Knock Out gestured toward Starscream's quarters. Megatron followed immediately.

They found Starscream asleep.

Curled slightly on his berth, his usually sharp posture softened by exhaustion, he looked... fragile.

Megatron approached, his shadow falling over the seeker. With a rough motion, he grabbed Starscream and shook him awake.

"Wake up, you glitch," he snarled. "Knock Out is here. Now speak why did you fail me again?"

Starscream jolted awake, disoriented at first—then tense as he realized who stood before him.

For a moment, he hesitated.

Then he spoke.

"Fine."

His voice was quieter than usual. Stripped of arrogance. Almost fearful.

"The problem is, I was forbidden to go on that mission."

Megatron's grip tightened.

"Explain."

Starscream swallowed.

"Because I'm carrying."

Silence.

Even Knock Out held his breath.

"I am sparked," Starscream continued, one hand instinctively moving toward his midsection. "Soon a little sparkling will walk the halls of the Nemesis."

His wings drooped as desperation crept into his voice.

"Please let me keep it. I beg you, my Lord. Have mercy."

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Megatron's expression became unreadable. Without a word, he released Starscream and turned away.

Then he walked to the door.

And left.

The sound of it closing echoed through the room.

Starscream stared after him, fear tightening in his chest.

Knock Out remained silent, unusually so.

Neither of them understood Megatron's reaction.

But soon

They would.
