Spaced Out (Lance X Reader)

Prolouge

"You what?!" (Y/n) screamed at their older brother Adam, who had just told them that he broke up with their now ex-finance Takashi Shirogane. "Why would you do that? I thought you loved Shiro!"

"I do love him, but he chose the mission over our relationship, (y/n). He's risking his life. I can't go through this again. I almost lost him once..." Adam tried explaining as calmly as possible.

"And now you lost him for real. He'll come back! I'm sure of it! They're just getting samples and coming back..." (y/n) tried arguing. This didn't seem fair. They had finally opened up to two people, Shiro and his adoptive brother Keith, and now it was like they were ripped apart from them.

"He could die!" Adam raised his voice a little, looking down at (y/n), but they kept their stand.

"He won't. I'm sure of it. You've seen how strong he is. He'll come back. Shiro did not leave you. You left him because you're a fucking coward" the words left their mouth before they could take them back. They just saw Adam's expressionless face quickly break. Tears welled up in the corners of his eyes. He was frozen in shock. Before they could say anything, Adam interrupted them,

"Go to your room (Y/n)." Adam said turning away, "I have work to do and you have to go to the Garrison tomorrow. We'll talk about this later" he had a calm, stern yet broken tone in his voice. Adam never raised his voice at (y/n) unless it was urgent or a life or death situation. (Y/n) acquiesced and headed up to their room. Once he had heard their door close, Adam broke, silent tears falling down his cheek as he kept his gaze low. "I'm sorry Takashi..." he mumbled

~ Weeks later~

"...We have not gotten in contact with any of the members. And it appears to be a pilot's error. I'm sorry to say but our dearest pilots, Matthew Holt, Samuel Holt, and Takashi Shirogane, are declared deceased.." (y/n) was in tears as they heard the news through the television. They couldn't believe it. They had hoped with all their heart that they would be fine. That they woukd come back. That Shiro would come back! Then him and Adam could get back together. And all four of them could be a happy family. Sadly, that didn't seem to be the case. Adam was sitting next to them then gently pulled them into a comforting embrace, though they thought it would be the other way around. Adam was visibly broken, tears rolling down his cheeks as he lightly rubbed (y/n)'s back. They sobbed quietly into his chest.

"I-I really thought...h-he...he.." They sobbed but their older brother calmly shushed them,

"I know..." He said softly then kissed the top of their head and gently stroke their hair. Suddenly, (y/n) remembered something and they froze for a minute.

"Keith...I have to go tell him.." they pulled away from the hug and got a light jacket. They called out to Adam that they would be back in a bit then closed the door and rushed out of the house. There were still tears stinging their eyes but they kept running. Finally, they reach's Keith's home and they hastily knocked on the door, "Keith,open the door please!" They hiccuped. It took a small moment but he opened the door.

"(y/n)? What are you doing here? Hey, you alright?" He asked softly. They were afraid of this. He didn't hear about or see it. So now (y/n) had the responsibility to tell him

"Keith..." They began and wiped some tears away from their eyes, "Takashi..Shiro's gone..There was a pilot error...They couldn't get in contact with any of the pilots..." With every few words more tears streamed down their cheeks and they took short and quick breaths. They were both quiet for a few minutes. Then Keith began to laugh. But not a someone said a funny laugh. It was a broken laugh.

"You're kidding right? This is another one of your pranks isn't it? That's not funny (n/n) {Nickname}" Keith choked up as tears prickled the corners of his eyes but he refused to cry. especially in front of someone he considered his younger sibling. (y/n) whimpered and shook their head, like telling him it wasn't a joke. Keith choked up a sob and pulled (y/n) in for a comforting embrace. They both hated this so much. Keith thought he could finally have a family again and now that was down the drain. And it broke (y/n) to see him like this. They wished this was a nightmare...little did they know, it would all change.
