The young Peter Parker, now 22 years old, was getting ready to patrol the dark streets of New York City. He had just finished sending his newest photos to Jonah and was looking for the rest of his suit. Last night he'd gotten back home so exhausted he'd thrown parts of his suit everywhere, at least he'd already found his webshooters, boots and pants.

While still looking for his stuff the young man walked past the old mirror that was hanging from the wall, he then took a couple steps back to look at his reflection. His eyes traveled from his messy brown hair to the still incomplete name on his chest. 'Wade Winston Wils-' that's all he had after twelve years and clearly there were still missing a couple letters.

Peter shook his head and rolled his eyes, it's not that he'd stopped believing in soulmates, he'd just stop believing in himself. Every relationship he'd ever been in had ended up in disaster and more often than not it had been because of him. So why would things with his soulmate be any different? After all they were just another person in the world, right? Nothing special. Besides who the hell thought it was okay to mark people as somebody else's property? Against their will! He could spend the rest of his life with whoever he wanted to, no matter if their names matched the ones written on their skin or not. That's just the way things were, at least in Peter's world. Regardless of what the ink said, at the end of the day it was Peter's decision. And probably that was the scariest part of all, he could meet someone, marry them and completely forget about his soulmate. Or he could keep waiting, keep waiting for whoever that "Wade" girl was and then live happily ever after or whatever. And in some way or another both choices were selfish, that depending on who ask.

Peter stared at the name for a couple more moments, feeling pity for his soulmate. "...who names a girl that?"

It was almost 1am and Spider-Man was exhausted. 'The city that never sleeps' was definitely an accurate description when it came to his beloved city, New York. And just like the city, it's superheroes barely had any rest.

After stopping yet another mugging Spider-Man climbed to a rooftop and lied down, defeated.

"Why are you like this?" He basically groaned, as if the city could actually hear him.

Peter was just standing back up when he heard not one, not two, but five gunshots. Suddenly he wasn't so tired anymore. He jumped off the building and began swinging towards the source of the sound or at least what he thought was the source of it.

"Nice!"

That was all Peter heard after swinging past a grocery store. When he came back he found no one, nothing. Clearly nothing had happened there, no blood, no bullets. Maybe he was just going crazy, his mind was playing tricks on him. 'Sleep deprivation, that must be it.' He thought. The young man shook his head and was about to turn around and leave when something caught his eye, something rather...strange.

There, skipping down the street was what looked like a man dressed in some sort of red and black suit. That's not what caught Peter's attention though, he was in New York after all, seeing guys in Halloween costumes and tights wasn't an odd occurrence. What truly sparked his interest was how heavily armed the guy was.

Okay so he might've had only five hours of sleep in the past three days but he wasn't hallucinating. And now that he'd seen the guy he was sure he hadn't imagined the gunshots either.

He quietly followed the man in black...and red, he was humming something, that had to be Toxic by Britney Spears. And for someone who had just fired a gun five times in a row at one in the morning he seemed a little too relaxed, it was almost creepy.

He wasn't gonna let him go, he had to confront him, ask him what he'd done or force him to confess. Spider-Man was sure he'd done something, he just needed a confirmation to web the bastard to the wall.

"Help!"

Peter froze.

Oh come on, not now!

"He's got my purse! Thief!" Yelled a terrified woman. What was she doing outside at 1am anyway?

Spider-Man glanced at the stranger one last time, before groaning and running the other way. "That purse better be Prada." The hero shoot a web and jumped into action.
