Gone are the ones who die

Gone are the ones who die

Deep down their bodies lay

I don't know where their souls lie

Or if they sleep at the end of the day

They disappear all of a sudden

Life sucked out of them

They leave earth with the soil untrodden

And perfume on their old shirts' hem

They were flowers blooming

Bringing petals to life

They spent the years grooming

Heedless of hours of strife

And then the lightning came

Striking the flower at the root

But it was not the lightning to blame

For challenging fate is moot

And so the flower fell

And along fell its petals

Shedding their beauty like a shell

Broken with razor-sharp metals

Those who die don't feel the pain

The ones who stay do

It's not the lightning but the rain

That streaks our heart with blue
