For Jenny from Mars

Based off of Hostage.

Mars fell into the water that put out the fire he had caused, and saw Jennifer run out with Tommy and Jeff. They had towels on their heads.

Mars looked at the ceiling, "Why am I still here God?" He whispered. He put his hand on his abdomen, covering the bleeding gunshot wound. "Please God, I want this to end, just kill me and let my girl live."

He sat up halfway and vomited, some of it flying out of his cheek from where Jennifer had stabbed him. It burned like hell.

With a lot of effort, Mars stood up, still holding the gunshot wound. Putting his hand on the wall for support, Mars walked out of the burning house. He didn't care if the police shot him dead, he just wanted Jennifer to be alive.

Mars fell to his knees. "Jenny!" He yelled, hearing his skin pop from the burns. "Don't leave me, please," He said while lying down. After awhile, he stood up and began screaming, "Jenny! Jenny! I'm Sorry!"

He walked down the road and saw ambulances, running to them, he said, "Hey, Hey! Over here!" Before collapsing.

"What happened?" One of the EMTs said with worry lacing his words.

"Where's Jennifer? Where's Jenny?"

"She's fine but-"

Mars grabbed his shirt. "Where is she?"

"Please calm down sir. She's in the ambulance to the right."

Mars started walking over to the van, "Thank you."

"Wait, I can't have letting an injured man leave on my conscience, you need medical help."

"I'm fine." Mars stated sternly as he opened the back doors. Seeing Jennifer, he smiled softly. She was asleep on a cot, with Tommy sleeping on the other. Mars came closer to her, "I know you can't hear me, but I'm sorry." He held her hand and began crying, "I love you, and I'm sorry for putting your family through hell." He closed his eyes, "I couldn't kill you because I love you so much. I tried killing myself to let you live, so I couldn't hurt you anymore." Mars was shaking, "I killed that cop, I killed Dennis, I killed Kevin but I couldn't for the sake of my life kill you." He opened his eyes and saw that Jennifer staring back at him. "You're not going to scream?"

"No."

"Did you hear all of that?" He asked.

Jennifer shook her head yes.

"Jenny, I'm sorry I hurt you. I deserved to be stabbed in the mouth by you."

Jennifer stood up, "I'm sorry I said I wasn't your girl. I was scared to leave my brother and my dad."

"I'm sorry, but is there a rag or towel I could use?"

Jennifer gave Mars the blanket she had and cleaned the blood and puke that covered his mutilated face. "Thanks," He said.

Afterwards, Jennifer hugged him and said, "Are you gonna try anything like this again?"

Mars hugged her back, "No, this was Dennis's idea, but you wanna know something else?"

"What?" Jennifer asked.

Mars lifted her chin up and said, "This is still the best day of my life."
