A new way of life

Chapter 1: Jimmy

  A tall but skinny boy walks into a walk-in freezer at a convenience store. The boy stands up, walks over to a cabinet, opens it, grabs a box full of ice cream. The boy walks out to the main part of the store and starts refilling the ice cream freezer.

A man walks over to the boy, looks at his nametag, and looks up at his face. The man waits for the boy to move out of the way, but he doesn't. The man raises their arm and taps the boy on the shoulder. The boy turns to face the man and says " can I help you." In a monotone voice.

The man moves their head back in shock as if they are offended by what the boy said. The man says " yes, as a matter of fact, Jimmy, you can help me. I need to check out."

Jimmy instantly notices the smell of alcohol and cigarettes on the man. Once Jimmy gets over the smell he notices that the man's face was covered in scars. Jimmy freezes for a second not knowing what to do. He turns and walks behind the counter.

Once the man reaches the counter places his stuff on it. Jimmy quickly scanned the man's items, and told the man "27.50 is the amount you owe." The man grabs the items off the counter and leaves the store.

Jimmy steps out from behind the counter, walks over to a shelf, and starts to take inventory of the store. As Jimmy gets to the middle of the shelf a Hispanic man walks into the store, looks around the store for a second, and walks over to Jimmy. The Hispanic man looks at Jimmy and asks "dónde está el baño?"

Jimmy doesn't understand what the man is saying. The man says "dónde está el baño?" Jimmy starts to back up towards the counter, but the man steps closer to Jimmy and asks him " dónde está el baño?"

Jimmy continues to back up until he's behind the counter. Once he is behind the counter he sees a baseball bat under the counter. Jimmy quickly grabs the bat with both of his hands and swings it at the man's head. The man steps back, to avoid being hit by the bat, but he doesn't step back far enough and gets hit in the head with the bat. The man crumbles to the ground as if he were dead.

With the same swing that hit the man, Jimmy drops the bat. He falls to the floor, landing on his back. Jimmy slides back until his head hits the back of the counter, he sits up, crules into the fetal position, and Jimmy begins to rock back and forth looking at the man.

A female cop walks into the store to get her daily cup of coffee, but when she rounds the corner she sees the man on the floor. She immediately draws her gun and starts looking around the store. Once the cop sees Jimmy rocking back and forth. She immediately recognizes that Jimmy is having a mental breakdown.

The female cop holsters her gun and walks outside. She moves her hand to her radio, squeezes the mic button, and talks into it saying "This is officer savage, requesting immediate emergency medical services to the convenience store on the end of pinto pass. There is 1 male unconscious on the floor just sitting there."

Once the ambulance arrives, the E.M.S. workers jump out of the ambulance, hurry into the convenience store, and over to the man's body. The E.M.S. workers inspect the man's body after they look at the man's body, they walk back over to the ambulance. The E.M.S. workers grab a stretcher and walk back into the convenience store. The E.M.S. workers grab the man and move him onto the stretcher. Once they have him on the stretcher, one of the workers takes him back to the ambulance, while the other stays in the store.

The ambulance worker who stayed in the store walked up to Jimmy, crouched down and said: "Hey I'm Woods." Jimmy doesn't move. Woods pauses for a moment, he stands up and walks over to officer savage.

Once Woods reaches officer savage, he looks at her and says "Hey, you were the first person here. So I was thinking maybe the kid connected with you." Office savage nods her head, and Woods walks back to the ambulance.

Officer Savage walks over to Jimmy and crouches down to be on the same level as Jimmy. She looks at him for a moment, and says "Hey, I was wondering if maybe, you want to talk ... about anything" Jimmy doesn't move. Officer Savage stands up and starts to walk away. But she turns around, to look at Jimmy. Officer Savage walks back over to Jimmy, and says "Hey, do you have Autism."

Jimmy looks up to Officer Savage. Officer Savage nods her head and says "I thought so, my son has Autism too. He has meltdowns sometimes. Well, I call them meltdowns but I don't know what the medical term is." Jimmy stands looks up at Officer Savage, and walks outside.

Once outside, Jimmy looks at Officer Savage and tells her about what happened. Officer Savage pulls out a notepad and starts to write down what Jimmy says. Once Jimmy is done telling Officer Savage what happened. Officer Savage looks at her notepad for a second, she looks up to Jimmy, and says "Well to me, it sounds like self-defense, so I'm going to let you go home." Jimmy turns around and walks home.
