the cold water boiled on your skin as you floated in the pool of Auradon Prep. The dark spring moon shined through the windows as you question your place here in Auradon. Being the son of Ursula you'd think it be easy to adjust to such lavish life, how wrong you were. The people of Auradon had secrets, they always had their best face on and that scared you. at least back in the isles, you knew everyone was a complete dick. But here, you just don't know. on top of the unknown, everyone was so god damn happy all the time you question both theirs and your own sanity at times.

The moon fell behind the clouds and consumed the indoor poor in darkness beside the haunting glow of the pool lights deep under the water. You began to close your eyes and drift off when you heard the door to the pool open. You launched up, using your water magic to allow you to stand of the surface of the water. You stood before Prince Ben as he looks on in amazement. The pool water swirled gently around your feet and glowed with a soft green light as it was flowing with your magic. Your cold looked soften as you realized it was just the prince.

"You okay, Y/N?" he asks. He was always so caring and forgiving and it bothered and confused you so much. How can a man be so forgiving after being tricked by the Mal's group? Throughout your first semester here you've caused more fights in one month then the school has seen in a normal year, but Ben was always there to defend you. Always ready with an excuse to back you up to the administration. You should have been sent back a long time ago but Ben always got you a second chance.

you gently fell back into the water when you realized you weren't in danger before replying.

"Yeah, I'm fine," you said.

"You sure, you're in a freezing pool during early spring," he chuckled.

"No water is too cold for someone like me, Ben. It's where I feel most at peace, it's a great place for me to think," you replied gazing at the now clear sky through the window. Ben took a seat near the edge to get closer without getting wet and just watched. "Why is the prince up this late?"

"Something felt off. Decided to go see if I could find whats wrong," he said, "looks like I found it."

"You can always assume a troubled kid like me is wrong, it's just in our nature."

"You always say that, but all the other isle kids have assimilated just fine, sure there were a few hiccups, but you're not your parents," he said. He always says that and it always gets under your skin. you couldn't stop yourself from speaking.

"Why do you always say that. I understand that my mother did something terrible, but she's not the devil. She raised me and cared for me. She wasn't terrible, sure she has her flaws but she is still my mother. The isle is my home. Everyone keeps telling me I just need to forget about the isle, but I don't want to, my family and friends are there. I grew up there," you stated, "My mother always said fight for what you deserve, stand up for yourself and the people you love," you were sitting up know face Ben, cheeks red and eyes watering. "Face it Ben, I don't belong here."

Ben stay quiet for a second before he actually reaching out over the pool and pulled you closer to him.

"I'm sorry you feel like that Y/N, I never really knew, I just assumed from all the stories from Mal and all them that you had a rough life, I-"

"My life wasn't sugar and cookies Ben, but it sure was one hell of a drug that keeps me coming back for more. And I don't mind, I survived on the isle once I can survive again." You said cutting him off.

"Do you just want to survive, or do you want to thrive?" Ben asked.

"I... I thrive in the isles. I know how to get food and win a fight. that's all I need."

"sure it's what you need, but what do you want? there's more to life than surviving. Don't you want to be able to achieve new things, learn new materials, find love and happiness?" Ben shooked you. Again with his ability to both understand you as well as make you question everything. Love was a taboo topic on the isles, it's mostly just random flings that never last and you had to be honest, you wanted more than that.

you look at ben before nodding, confirming that you did want to do all those things. Ben smiled before he stood up and put out his hand. you gratefully grab it as he helps you out the pool and emerge without a drop of water still on you. He walked you back to your dorm to make sure you actually went to bed before return to his own.
