Chapter 1
The streets were lonely. That was a word I never thought I'd describe them. Busy? Yes. Noisy? Yes. But lonely? No. I walk around aimlessly until I arrive at a club. I was never really that into drinking but now I needed to forget.
I grab my fake ID and hand it over to the bouncer. He glances over it quickly and hands it back with a silent nod. The club was crammed with drunk people. Some too young to be allowed but I couldn't say anything because I was too.
I walk over to the bartender and order 2 of the strongest shots they serve. He looked at me with an eyebrow raised and asked "rough day?" He could say that again. I nod and take the drink out of his hand. I tilt my head back and let the sour taste take over my senses. It burned my tongue and throat as it went down and I scrunch my nose in distaste. I order another 1 and gulp it down.
I jump off the barstool and into the crowd of people dancing. My hands above my head moving in time with the music, my body like an uncoiling rope, my eyes like fire. The music was my drug, bringing me higher and higher until my mind buzzes with pure joy. The joy is like a shot of adrenaline to the heart and all at once I'm moving, one with the music and one with every other crazy dancing person in this place.
Firm hands were planted on my waist and I whip around to come face to face with a handsome stranger. My breath hitches and I watch a small smile grow on his face. "Hi!" He says, his voice deep and sexy. "Hey!" I squeak out. "Care to dance with me?" He asks with a firm tone. I nod my head and place my hands on his chest. "Is this your first time here?" My mind is racing with danger warnings but my stupid drunk mouth didn't acknowledge it. "Yep!" I say popping the p. Damn drunk me was childish. He lets out a low chuckle and lowers his head down to my ear, "well I never forget a pretty face when I see one". My face blushes bright red but because of the strobe lighting you couldn't tell.
After a few minutes of dancing, I walk over to the bartender and order some more shots. The handsome stranger places his hand over mine and pays for the drinks. I came here to forget and this is what I was gonna do. I down the shots one by one and the guy looks at me surprised. "My names Ethan!" He says, looking down and running a hand through his dark hair. "Hmm Ethan nice name! My names Kayla the koala!" I say smiling widely. I cringe inwardly at my drunk words, If I had any chance of being with this guy, all I can say is I've probably blown it.
I try to jump off the barstool but I stagger uneasily. "Careful" His mouth was so close to mine I could reach out and kiss it. But then sober me would regret it. I stumble into the crowd again to dance. Ethan wraps his strong arms around me stopping me from dancing. I poke his bicep and laugh. " let go of me I want to dance!" I flail my arms around helplessly. "Princess you'll regret this in the morning, so I am stopping you from further embarrassment." I huff and blow my hair out of my face. "Wait are you saying my dancing is bad?" He laughs and pulls me closer to his chest.
I sway slowly as my mind spins dizzily. The images around me blur together. I feel Ethan's arms tighten around me. My eyes feel heavy and I try to keep them open. The last words I hear before I pass out are "let's get you out of here!"
