The noise would keep me up at night. The hum of the machines that kept her breathing would form thoughts in my head, ones that scared me, ones I didn't want to be true. But I knew what would happen sooner or later. Some day those hums would fall silent and the girl I loved would slip away. And all I could do was bring lilies.

She didn't like lilies all that much, but it was all I could get in a hurry. The doctors, they told me what happened when I arrived, her current state and everything. But just like in the films, my world fell silent as I saw them hurry her down the hall.

Wires trailed from her bed, blood dripped from her hands as she stayed still. My world had been torn, and now clung to the last strands of life. With each passing day her strength grew weaker. I knew she didn't have long but I felt I needed more time, more time to spend with her but I don't. I keep messing up, I shouldn't of let her go alone. Had I been there with her she might still jave a chance but I failed her. I failed my lover, I failed our future and now all I can do is watch, and bring her lilies.

She told me her favourite flowers were orchids yet I still bring her those lilies. She reminds me too much of them that I'm drawn to them, like I am to her. I hold her cold hand in hopes that maybe, just maybe, it would spark some sort of motion in her, a sign that she was going to be okay and we can restart everything. I long to see her soft dark brown eyes again, her smile, the love she gave me, how I long for those things but I know its not going to happen. Not this time, not ever.

Tonight was the night. The night the machines fell quiet and the haunting noise finally left. Tonight, after months of fighting to bring her back to me, had come to an end. As I sat next to her, holding her cold hand in mine, gently stroking her chwek, I place the lilies on her lap and left her in peace.
