The air smelled of must and moss. Many small rabbits came bounding out of their homes to gather a meal. There was a small chance of food for any species really, the old woods had been abandoned by most creatures years ago, and the dragons in the higher caves had burned almost all of the vegetation out of spite.
The elves who inhabited the dry lands were starting to run out of resources. Their tree supply was scarce, and one had to walk a mile for water.
Along the stumps of the many cut trees, walked a rather weary elf. He was red in the face with his eyes half shut.
The man trudged through the broken branches and the dry grass. He had been out for water for a week, and had found nothing. In the distance he heard cries, the were a dragon's no doubt, but they were louder than the usual dragon cries from the caves. A small shiver crawled up the elf's spine. Although it was scary, he shook it off and continued.
Almost only a second passed when a great mighty screech erupted from in front of the traveler. The old elf fell backwards and tried to crawl away.
Despite his desperate attempts, the man couldnt escape the creature. The distant screach he had heard earlier was in fact... a dragon.
Right before the large scaly beast devoired him whole, the traveler got a good look at the beast eyes.
Emerald green.
He was in such a state of wonder that he was devoured by the dragon without a peep.
