The End Of Our Lives

Chapter 1

Nothing is more scary than being woke up at 3 A.M. by screaming people pounding on your door. Over the past week in New Orleans, many women have been accused of witchcraft. Police officers are arresting women accused, while men from the town help. My mother, Diane Jones, expected this would happen sooner or later. My mom had me pack my bags and leave them ready to go in her car. My mother is one of those people who save every dime they've ever made. She had fake I.D's made for me for this type of situation.

But this early morning was awful.. I can hear people screaming her name and saying awful things about her.

My mother came running in my room crying. Running up to me and grabbing me into a bear hug she whispers in my ear "Ella.. whatever you hear, stay in your room. When you hear me scream, climb out of your window and get in my car. Everything you need is in the console. Don't forget me, my sweet girl, I love you forever..". With one more hug she turns and goes to the front door to open it. The voices of police officers are loud in the house as they accuse her of witchcraft "Diane Jones, you have been accused of witchcraft by somebody of power, you're now under arrest". And as if everything happened all at once, she started screaming so loud it broke my heart. It took everything in me not to go save her. I ran to the window and climbed through. As I run around the back yard to the front, I watch them drag her away. I jump in the car and drive as fast as I can to the top of the hill as I watch them burn my mothers helpless, screaming body. I screamed so loud I don't really know how they didn't hear me, maybe the did, they just didn't care. Not long after I found the nerve to get in the car and to keep driving out of the only town I've ever known, the resting places of both of my parents, and the place I grew up.
