I love my skin,
Rich in melanin,
Descendant of last kin,
The original specimen.
I love my nose,
Flat and wide,
Like Africa's plains and bongos,
Filled with cultural pride.
I love my feet
That once danced in the Lagos sand,
To the rhythm and beat
Of my homeland.
I love my hair,
Defiant of gravity,
It's beauty is unfair,
Tall gracious levity.
I love my heart,
Still beating to the rhythm
Of talking drums, an ancient art
Of community with no division.
I love my hands
Which worked hard,
Cooked Jollof in a pan
Out in the yard.
I love my face,
Every bit of my ancestors,
Upholding the grace
Of my regal predecessors.
I love me,
And all I represent,
All over the world, across the sea,
The people just like me.
