Prologue
SEVEN YEARS AGO.

It wasn't often that Erik smiled, but this day should have been one of those rare occasions. He'd won. He'd accomplished his goal. After half a decade of endless war and at the age of 19, he had extinguished all the barriers placed in front of him and sat unobstructed on the high throne dominating the capital of Miayarona.

He'd defeated his enemies—almost all his enemies. Those creatures who had oppressed and allowed the sufferings of humans now tastes their own poisons. With the monsters imprisoned and enslaved, humans can walk freely and sleep soundly without fear again. Those monsters would never determine the fate of humans ever again.

The age of man has finally arrived.

And yet, Erik's features were as expressionless as ever. Not a hint of a smile. An air of tension hung in the atmosphere around his throne as his subdominants whispered nervously below him.

Young as he was, Erik was an imposing man, maybe it was in the way he moved or perhaps in the way his gaze seems to pierce through one's very soul. But those who met him for the first time knew generally to fear him. And those who were familiar with him, even more so.

But it was different today, something wasn't right.

"Your majesty!" The high priest kneeled before the throne, his face, fine boned and sharp, was twisted into something of a panicked anger. "Your majesty! Please reconsider!"

Erik could feel the annoyance building up within him.

"It is not wise to start a war with the holy ones!" The impudent priest exclaimed, his hands reaching out to point to the sky, his grey eyes staring straight at the crown prince, soon to be king. "They will destroy us! They have been merciful! But if we start a war on them, we will be wiped out! Your majesty, please reconsider!"

Erik clicked his tongue as his fingers drummed at the throne impatiently. Sensing his impatience, the high priest quickly looked down in submission. Even without seeing his face however, Erik could paint a clear picture of what his expression would be and of the defiance that would be clearly there. And Erik hated it.

"The holy one have always been merciful to us! They've helped shape and protect this world we reside in! They have aided and protected us during the war! They are our protector, our allies! Your Majesty, we mustn't betray our allies, our faith! We need them! Who is men with out faith! Please reconsider your majesty!"
Erik's eyes narrowed slightly, it has been a long time since he's been spoken to this way; from across the room the other ministers whisper furiously amongst themselves, shocked by this rude absurdity. In the past, Erik would not have had the patience to hear this questionings before having him executed. But today, he felt the need to control himself. After all, it was all part of the plan.

"This is for the greater good of the people. The new era for men has no place for false prophets and idols." Erik finally answered, drumming his fingers, agitated. "We humans have always been seen as the inferior species. But from today, this insult will be over, no longer shall men seek protection from others, we will behold our own fate again! We have already defeated the demons and faes ; the holy ones would proof to be no more of a challenge! This war is a necessity!"

"But, your majesty!" Cried the high priest, "The Kingdom is unstable! We had just finished a war! It is unwise to start another! Our forces are weakened by the previous war against the demons and fae. Many of our greatest warriors have fallen and the royal mages is reduced to almost nothing. Even with the fall of the Gods, the holy ones are still the most powerful entities in this dimension! There is no guarantee..." he paused, as if looking for words. " ...or even little hope for our victory! This war is pointless! And the people will suffer! They cannot go through another war! They are hungry and tired, losing their loved ones in the war and many are without home! Let us rebuild and repair before flying into another war!"
