The sound of birds chirping woke you up the next morning. You stretched out your slightly sore limbs and ran a hand through your hair, smoothing out the little knots along the way. Through groggy thoughts, your brain worked to remember the activity for the day. Ah, a hike up the mountain! You would get to spend the whole day with David....and Gwen......and the kids. Nevertheless, every minute with him was enjoyable, regardless of who else tagged along.
You looked at the clock to see if you could sleep just a bit longer, but it was already 7:56 am, and your alarm would be going off in just four minutes. Griping to yourself, you hoisted your tired body out of bed, made your way to the dresser, grabbed some clean clothes and a towel, and exited the cabin to go to the communal showers.
The small building housing the showers was not the most sanitary facility, which irked you at the slightest. It was rarely cleaned, a bit moldy in some spots, and you often felt dirtier coming out than you did going in. Not to mention the sub-par plumbing made the water pressure terrible. As you approached, you could see steam seeping from a cracked window. A blast of humid air hit you in the face as you opened the door, and you quickly paced over to the girl's side of the building. Gwen wasn't there, so by order of elimination, David was the one currently showering. Heat rose to your cheeks and you shook images of his naked body out of your mind. He's your coworker, you shouldn't be thinking of him that way! Yet as you stripped down and entered the hot shower, letting the water sweep you away with your thoughts, you couldn't help but imagine him holding you, kissing you, staring at you with those unique sea green eyes, and letting you run your fingers through his beautiful auburn hair. You let these emotions build up inside you until you couldn't help but sing to get them out. A classic song...

"Wiiiiiiise meeeeeen saaaaay
Only foooools ruuuuuush iiiiiin
But I caaan't heeeelp falling in looooove wiiiiiith youuuuu.
Shaaaaall I staaaaaaay?
Would it beeeee aaaaa siiiiiin?
If I caaaan't heeelp falling in looooooove wiiiii-"
"Hello?" came a familiar voice. You almost shit yourself.
"David, is that you?" You called, poking your head out from behind the curtain.
"Yeah," he replied.
"Jesus, you scared me!"
"Sorry! I don't mean to intrude, but are there any extra towels in here? I forgot mine in my room," he said, embarrassed.
"Yeah I think there's one on the bench across from the door," you replied. He rushed over to grab it before you could see anything, gave a quick thank you, and like that, he was gone. He wasn't the only one embarrassed, he walked in on you while you were singing about him! You supposed you were the only one that knew this, but the principal of the matter still got to you. You stood there, the water running over your back, processing the whole scenario. How serendipitous.
After finishing your shower, drying off, putting your clothes on, styling your hair just the way you liked it, and dusting on a bit of natural makeup, you looked yourself over in the mirror and nodded.
"Nicccce."

You met David in the mess hall, and were surprised to see Gwen already sitting with him. 'She probably takes night showers,' you thought. Gwen left the seat next to David open for you, which you appreciated. Girls have to help one another, right?
You set your tray down and stretched out your arms and neck once more before digging into the hash browns.
"Just have Quarter Master pack the lunches into sacks, we'll pay him back for the extra work later," Gwen said.
"I suppose, but I still feel bad about asking him for an extra favor, he does so much for us already," David looked guilty.
"We'll be busy helping the kids pack their bags for the hike, so someone has to do it," she justified. You nodded in agreement.
"Well then let's start packing as soon as everyone's done eating," he said, "and don't forget we have to talk about safety and possible dangers along the way." Gwen rubbed her eyes in irritation.
"Yes I know, David," she said emotionlessly. You kept quiet during this exchange, still slightly embarrassed about the previous events of that morning. You hoped to god he wouldn't bring it up.
"Oh, Y/N," David turned to you, your heartbeat increased immediately.
"Before I forget, Gwen and I were talking about throwing a little party for the kids sometime soon. Kind of like a dance! What do you think of the idea?" He asked.
You let yourself relax, and thought about it for a moment. So many things could go wrong, and the look on Gwen's face told you that she had already told David she didn't like the idea. You turned back to David, about to reject his plan, but the look in his eyes struck you. You could tell he really wanted to do this for the kids. Saying no might crush him, you just could't do it.
"I think that would be really fun," you gave a small smile. His face lit up like a Christmas tree! You loved seeing him like this.
"Great! We can talk about the fine details later, we have a big day ahead!" He ate the rest of his breakfast with vigor and bounded out the door, not bothering to wait for you and Gwen. The two of you gave each other a knowing look and finished your breakfast in comfortable silence.
