My Dad had said we had to move out of the blue while we were eating dinner.

"Wait what?" My Mom asked had asked.

He then explained why, which included how well he was doing with the company, and since my mom didn't work to take care of me, he decided it was for the best. After that, there was talk about where we would move.

"America. How does that sound, Ethan?" He had asked me.

For the next couple days, all we did was eat, sleep, and pack. In a matter of week, we were up and heading to America. We were going by boat, which at the time, I thought was just the best thing ever. But as it turns out, it wasn't.

My dad got terribly sick and ended up dying the next day. It was dark times. Once we got to America, his funeral was the top priority, and I guess my mom didn't realize how little we actually had at the moment, put the rest of our money to the funeral.

Of course, I had only been alive for 6 years and didn't understand everything a thing. But my mom never wanted to tell. We settled into our home, which wasn't much of a home. There were two small bedrooms, and close to none of the unpacking actually was done. My mother was too depressed to do anything, and I was far too young.

After a couple months of living in the darkness, she decided it was time to find a job. A few weeks go by and she lands a job as a waitress. I started to go to school, and things were still bad.

Her job paid very little, and costs kept getting larger and larger. Elementary school comes and goes, and so does middle school.

I was a freshman in High School when she met him. Jeff. At first he was great. Took us out to dinner, treated her with gifts, but then he became comfortable and got her trust. He beat her with both his words and fists, raped her, treated her as a slave, invited his friends over to do the same exact thing, and so much more.

But she couldn't get rid of him. He ran the restaurant she worked at. All the money she makes either goes towards the house, or Jeff's needs. The darkness never left us.

We had an old computer that I had connected with since we got here, and it became my best friend. I wanted to help out with my family. It may not be the best family, but it was mine. And I needed to help out.

There was an add that I found while researching for a history paper that promised that every 100 sites that I found that were fake, I would earn $10. It wasn't much, but it helped.

I had earned my first $10 that week. And I was over the moon. I hid it all in my mattress so Jeff wouldn't find it. I wanted to go to collage, and that old prick wouldn't stop me. (Sorry. My English is showing)

It took 3 years to earn enough. But it was all worth it. And now you are all caught up in my life. I was walking home from school, listening to music and as happy as ever. Ugh. Why did I have to wear jeans today? I mean, my outfit does look a little better than normal. Blue jeans, black and white adidas superstars, black jacket and a green t shirt. But of course, the darkness had to come back.

I had walked in on my mom crying by herself on the couch with a paper in her hands.

"Mom Mom Mom! Hey! What's wrong?" I asked her, running over to her, dropping my bag on the ground in the process. I hugged her and she continued to cry into my shoulder for a couple minutes.

"We lost the house." She said in between sobs.

"Does Jeff know?" I asked. She shook her head. I then got an idea.

"Excuse me for a moment." I said then went to my room, upturning my bed. I then walked back over to her with a box full of money. She turned over the money in surprise and disbelief.

"Where did you get this?" She asked.

"Doesn't matter. As long as Jeff doesn't find out-" I started.

"Find out what?" The man himself said, walking into the room. My face paled as I looked over at him. He stood there, fat and all, with his arms crossed, looking as pissed as ever.

"Nothing! Nothing." I said a little to quickly.

"Nothing, eh? Well it sure as hell doesn't look like nothing. Now will someone kindly tell me what the fuck is going on?" He yelled. I bit my lip and looked back at my terrified mother.

"We...we were just talking about the future. Ethan might go to collage." She said as a cover up. It sounded pretty legit. He then made a grunting noise that led me to believe that he didn't believe a word she said.

"With what money, huh?" He said while walking closer. I fiddled the bottom of my shirt as he got closer and closer.

"What the hell is this? Stolen?" He said, throwing the box of money to the side and putting his hand out, as to strike my mom.

"DONT YOU DARE TOUCH HER!" I screamed at him. He put his hand back at his side and turning to me with a smirk on his face that screamed 'bad idea, kid.'

"Good idea. I'll just hit you instead." Jeff than punched me square in the jaw, making me fall to the ground. For a fat man, he had a lot of strength. All I heard was my mothers screams. That got me going.

I got up and wiped the blood off of my busted lip. I raised my fists up, ready to fight.

"No! Ethan..." My mom said. I ignored her.

"I could do this all day." I told him.

"So could I." He answered.
