Years ago, I was found under a burnt tree and injured. It was new that a human would care for a Kitsune. My kind is known to cause problems for humans. Stealing everything they have or manipulate them into doing something awful to their own kind. I wasn't like my ancestors though. I wanted to save the humans not hurt them. I found that they were interesting creatures. Just like the one that saved me. She was an older woman.

Her rich black hair was pulled back into a bun and her beautiful kimono was dirty from pulling the burnt branches off of me. She came to me carefully, reaching out to me slowly. Making sure I don't bite her.
"It's alright little one, I'm here to help you." She said calmly. Her voice was mesmerizing, causing me to stare at her in awe.

"My name is Yuko, what is it that I should call you little one?" She asked me as I laid still in her lap.

"They call me Kitsune." I said in a weak voice.

"Kitsune? So you're the fox spirit that protects us?" She asked, stroking my fur slowly. Making sure I'm not in pain. I nodded my head, while laying it back down on her warn lap.
It felt like days past by that I stayed in her lap with her petting me. It was true though, I was the only one of my kind that protected the humans. The others wanted to have mischief and misfortune for them. But that just didn't seem fair to the humans.

Humans already seemed to have problems and enough misfortune as it is. Working day and night to just make a small amount of coins to last them and their families. Caring for the farms and finding little food. Their homes being broken apart from the snow and storms. But there was something I found fascinating about their kind. No matter the outcome, they still had each other. They still had love and that's all they needed. With that alone, I decided to be the one to help them. I protected the farms so the rats and rodents wouldn't go near them. I persuaded the high racked citizens to donate as much as they can to the families that needed it. Which helped the families to fix their homes.

"I have to thank you then." My thoughts were broken through from Yuko's sweet voice.

"For what may I ask?" I said curiously.

Her wrinkled face lifted up when she smiled. "If it weren't for you, my family and I wouldn't be here to this day. I was just a child at the time, but I remember seeing you running across the field. You had two tails at the time though. It seems you gained some wisdom and strength." She said, looking down at my 4 tails. I remember now, she was the little girl that waved at me when I was chasing rats away from the homes. I had just gained my second tail then.

"Tell me Yuko, do I not scare you? Why did you save me?" Sadness came over me as the words flowed out of me. I was then scared to hear her answer. Instead of words, I hear laughter coming from her. I looked up at her in shock.

"Forgive me, but why should I be afraid of something that protected us for so many years? You kept our village safe and for that I am grateful. And believe me when I say that everyone in our village would have done the same thing that I did." She said with pride coming from her voice. A tear running down her pale face.
As she wiped it alway she softly said, "You are our protector and without you, we would be gone years ago. But you're not only our protector, you are family too."
That was all it took for me to stand up and look her in the eye. This woman saw me as family and not only her but everyone in the village.

"Then may I ask a request from you then?" I said, standing on only three of my legs. She nodded "I'll do anything you ask"

I closed my eyes and imagined a beautiful woman with rich hair like Yuko's. Now I just needed to take that form. As I opened my eyes I can see Yuko was in shock. I looked down to see my naked human body was stunning. Yuko took a sheet that she had and covered me with it. She said it was "indecent from a woman to show her body in public."

"If it's not too much terrible, I would like to stay with you until my injuries have healed." I said, bowing my head down in respect. I looked to see she was still in shock. "You would to live with me?" She said with her little wrinkled hand over her mouth.

"Only until I'm healed, then I can go back in protecting the village." I said, looking down and my now broken arm and my bloody body. The sheet was now covered in my blood. I didn't know whether it was being in a human form now but I could feel myself getting lite headed.

"Very well, my grandson is staying with me for the meantime as well. He could help with the healing. Come little o-..." She stopped mid sentence. She looked at me and put her hand under her chin. "Now that I think of it, I need to have a name for other than 'little one' or 'Kitsune'..." She said, closing her eyes and humming.

Then her eyes swung wide open and there was a twinkle in her eye. " I have the prefect name!" She said, grabbing hold of both my shoulders.

"Mitsuke!" She said with excitement.

Mitsuke means beauty of the moon. I looked at her with a questionable expression. How was I the beauty of the moon?

"The time I saw you, it was on a full moon. And you looked beautiful with the moon shining down on your while pure fur." She said with a smile. Honestly I kinda liked it.

"Mitsuke it is."
