Winter's Mercy

I move through the trees
Quiet as the snow
I can't feel my knees
But no one else can know

My back is warm
My pack, heavy
I hold out my arms
It's hard to walk steady

The wind blows
All I see is white
My jacket is tightly closed
If not, I'd be in flight

Suddenly I see a light
I move towards it with speed
It's so very bright
Someone has answered my plea

I see a door
It's made of wood
I'm frozen to the core
I wonder if I should

I open the door slowly
And make my way inside
A small fire burns brightly
Out of happiness, I cry
