"So it goes down to Switzerland?" I spoke as I cycled around the Le Rhône river. It was a rather foreign place to me, so I was with my girlfriend just enjoying the mild warmth of the spring morning.
Ducks skimmed across the crystalline river as ripples trailed them, diffracting over the small vastness. The refracting images of the sun bent through the clouds, what rays did connect to the ground were blinding. Salty smells consumed the unusually foggy air as the aftermath of a rainstorm suffocated the clean concrete.
"Yes. It actually ends near Geneva." Emma said, taking a small U turn to signify her missing the parents' old detached home.
"What do your parents think of me?" Yesterday was the first day I met Emma's parents, so of course I wanted to know every little detail of their perception of me.
"I think they're more concerned about Antoine." Of course, the groom to be. And Emma's future brother in law, marrying her older brother Cecil tomorrow. Both worryingly attractive and put myself to shame. Anyone would be excused to think my dear Emma fell for Antoine herself.
'The day of glory has arrived!
Against us tyranny's
Bloody flag is raised! (repeat)
In the countryside, do you hear
The roaring of these fierce soldiers?
They come right to our arms
To slit the throats of our sons, our friends!' The lyrics to the national anthem rang from her phone, signifying a parents' summoning.
"Emma! You must come home immediately! You are in grave danger if you stay outside any longer."
"Why-"
"I will explain once you get back home." In little time, we cycled back to our little cottage, long enough to see the entire sky flash reds.
"Emma. Mr Smith. Please." He ushered us to the living room. "I'm afraid France... No. The entire EU. Is under attack." 'Well, at least Farage was useful for something.' "Robots."
