"I like our b-bedroom," Meg said uncertainly
"Your bedroom," Simon corrected without
emotion. "I will occupy the one downstairs."
She stared at him, her mind shrinking away
from the blunt meaning of his words. There
was no mistaking his look of dislike.
"What are you saying, Simon?" Her mouth was
dry with fear. "I... don't understand."
"You understand. You are not a fool, Meg." He
eyed her remotely, "in a nutshell, I have no
intention of consummating our marriage, nor
of sharing a bed with you. Not now, not ever. It
wasn't an easy decision to make, for I'll admit
you turn me on. But not enough, my dear, for
the self-disgust I would feel afterward!"
LILLIAN CHEATHAM considers herself a southerner by
birth, a wife and mother by choice and a writer by
compulsion. She met the man she would marry while
he was in medical school. Her life, she says, followed a
fairly predictable pattern until the eldest of their four
children entered college and their youngest began
grade school. For the first time in years, Lillian
discovered she had spare time. She started on her first
book and hasn't stopped writing since.
