"So, you wanted to talk. What is it?"

Nezumi looked at Shion with an impatient expression on his face. Shion knew it was now or never. Now was his chance to tell Nezumi how he really felt about him. Not friendship, and definitely not indifference, as Nezumi insisted they should feel. It wasn't right, though. One day, they might turn into enemies. Shion felt his confidence being drained away. It wasn't right and he knew it, but it was too late to change his feelings now. He knew he would stand by him even if Nezumi one day decided to really destroy No. 6.

"It's just that..."

The small, book-filled room that always seemed so cozy now appeared too small to Shion. He felt as if he was locked up in a cage. His lips refused to budge. The look on Nezumi's face seemed to be saying "Come on. I don't have all day!" Shion forced himself to continue.

"It's just that, more than anything, I'm afraid of losing you, Nezumi. I just can't imagine a life without you. You can laugh at me and belittle me all you want, but this is how I feel. I..."

Shion spat out a waterfall of words filled to the brim with emotions. He realised that it was easier to just keep going after he'd started. Afraid of seeing the mocking expression that surely crept upon Nezumi's face, Shion shut his eyes as tightly as he could.

"I... Love you."

He finished. A gust of warm air swept onto his face. Something soft and gentle touched his lips. Shion's eyelids sprung open in surprise to reveal Nezumi's face, so close to his own that the features were out of focus.
"Nezumi is... He's kissing me, " Shion thought, in shock. Very gently, he put his hand on Nezumi's chest and pushed him away. They looked at each other, both slightly confused; one because of the kiss and the other because it ended so quickly.

"Look, I sure as hell ain't confessing anything, if that's what you're expecting. We still might end up as enemies. Remember, we're not supposed to become attached,"

Nezumi said. A soft, loving look resided in his eyes, contradicting his cold words. Involuntarily, the corners of Shion's mouth lifted into a gentle smile. He put his arms around Nezumi and nestled his face in his chest.

"I meant it, every word. I told you because I want to be honest with you. I'm not expecting anything in return."

In response, Shion felt something warm and wet drip into his hair. He looked up and saw tears running down Nezumi's face.

"I-it's not what you think. I just got something in... "

Halfway through his masking statement, Nezumi seemed to change his mind and mumbled,

"No one has ever said anything like that to me, you know. I've never met anyone as weird as you, weird enough to like me. Thank you. Thank you for everything."

Shion felt Nezumi's embrace tighten around him and tilted his head back to look into his eyes. There was a silence more powerful than anything they could express with words and the look in Nezumi's eyes was enough for Shion to throw his life away if he was commanded to do so by Nezumi.
