The image above is the position that one of my characters will be in, just to give you an idea of what I mean by "sitting on her own head" lol. And if anyone has any questions feel free to ask, because I actually practise moves like this at a circus club so if I can be of any help for understanding specific circus moves, let me know! X
"Stretch Connor! For fucks sake"
Luke yelled, throwing his empty orange juice carton at the lad who was lying in a heap on the floor.
Connor ignored him, and simply carried on gazing at the roof of the grand big top the travellers had just finished setting up. They didn't have a show until Tuesday night, and it was Sunday evening , so Connor figured that he would have plenty of time to practise the acro routine he had been doing for the last four years.
"He's right you know"
Came a soft voice from beside him. He didn't need to turn his head to see who had spoken. He already knew it was Wonder (who's real name was Olivia). The flexible girl was lying on her chest, with her legs arched over her body, in which most people would find horribly painful, with her feet beside her face. She was painting her toenails a shimmering gold to match her special performance costume.
"He is, acrobats can lose their flexibility, you know" came another voice from above. This one belonged to Esmeralda ( who was actually given the name Melissa at birth ). Connor watched as she swung back and forth, holding onto the trapeze swing with only her legs.
He pulled a face, poking his tongue out at the girl hanging upside down.
"What would you know" he mumbled. "You're a trapeze artist, not an acrobat"
"A bloody good one too" Luke shot back at the scruffy haired boy, whilst Melissa swung past and fist bumped the taller lad.
"So watch your mouth, if you know what's best for you" he offered out a hand for the younger boy to take, which he did with a groan of annoyance.
"Con you know it's important to stretch, it would be a travesty to lose the talent you've worked so hard for" Olivia sighed, painting her last nail.
The acrobat scoffed.
"That's easy for you to say, you're a contortionist, that makes you naturally flexible, you don't even have to stretch!" He rolled his eyes pointing towards the girl who was practically sitting on her own head.
"Don't be stupid, of course I still have to stretch! I do an hour a day thank you very much!" The girl huffed, picking up her nail polish with her foot and chucking the bottle and the grouchy boy.
"By choice!" He caught the bottle that she had sent his way. But the boy was smiling, for how ever much they drove him crazy, they were like family, and wanted the best for him, so he loved them dearly. Even when they were being annoying, for example, swinging down at full force from a trapeze and ruffling his already messy hair, just as Melissa had down. Before Connor had even seen her come she was already flying back up towards the ceiling, laughing like the nutter she was.
"So, Condor, you gonna stretch or what?" A smirking Luke asked.
"Yeah yeah" the younger boy waved him off.
"What you using show names for anyway, Lucas The Lion Tamer"
Connor poked him in the rib.
"Because yours makes me laugh" the 6'4 lad stumbled back, rubbing his rib.
"You're one to talk!" The blonde sassed back. "Lucas the Lion Tamer is hardly thrilling!" Connor giggled.
Usually travelling circuses are not allowed to have zoo animals as part of their shows anymore, but Mr Tangle's Was the only one legally given permission to, seeing as they were able to take care of the animals, putting their needs first. However, they weren't allowed to travel with them, so when they were away from home, Luke became "Lightning bolt " referring to him whizzing round up and down, on and off the walls at an uncomfortable amount of speed on a motorbike, fire blazing for him to weave in and out of.
The animals were kept at the zoo, and collected when the circus was back in town. There was Lady, the beautiful female lion, and Leon, the stunning male, with his furious mane. Luke would work with them, allowing Lady to have a piggy back on him, whilst Leon jumped through a few hoops.
There was Georgia the zebra, who was sometimes ridden by the equestrian of the circus, alongside with her beautiful herd of horses, which (apart from the dogs) were the only animal they were allowed to travel with. The last of the animals was probably Connors favourite. Elijah the elephant was one of the sweetest animals he had ever come across. Elijah would often lower his great trunk to very gently pat you on the head, which he did with his eyes closed, making him look very content. Emily, who helped bring Elijah up had told Connor that elephants see humans like we see puppies and kittens, cute.
