{Georgia-Mae POV}
The city lights are glowing bright below me ,reflecting off the water. My mind is racing and all I can think about is my new life. It's happening. I'm getting away from the shit life I was living in Missouri.
I will be attending a vet school near Aunt Jean so I can help her around the ranch. We lost Uncle Westley almost two years ago to a drunk driver and it's been hard. Aunt Jean has been a trooper and has kept up the ranch herself with little help.
I'm awoken by the elder lady seated next to me, " We have landed sweetheart." I smile and thank her before helping grab her bags. "Have a blessed day " she touches my arm and heads in the opposite direction that I was headed.
It was defiantly a genius idea to ship all my boxes of clothes ahead of time, leaving me with a small little duffle bag filled with things I needed. I was able to just skip baggage claim.
Waiting at the bottom of the packed escalator is my lovely aunt. She is in her early thirties and has long, curly , black hair. Her olive skin tone makes her hazel eyes pop. She is tall and has a broad figure.
She is holding a sign that reads "Georgia-Mae Jean Miller", along with a small bouquet of freshly picked wild flowers. I rush through the people and embrace her.
"Welcome home Darlin. I am so glad that you decided to finally come." I wrap my arm around her waist while hers are on my shoulders. "I am too. I miss this place so much !" I say into her chest.
We grab my bad and head back to the house , "How's your mom ?" She asks to break the silence.
I roll my eyes " Probably doped up on something new by now. Chad left again a few days ago and she is 'grieving' "
She scoffs, "God I wish she would have let you move earlier. But it would have been really hard to catch up in school. The local high school is a lot different than yours back home."
I nod and the rest of the car ride was filled with laughter and gossip. I rested my head against the window and took in the beautiful land. Mountains in the distance and miles and miles of open fields. It was a two hour drive from the airport to our ranch. I was just so happy to be here finally. For as long as I can remember I have flown out to my aunt's ranch and spent the entire summer helping her and Uncle Westley.
We are just relaxing on the front porch watching some new foals running and playing in the little field by the barn. "Westley and I would sit out here for hours and give them voices , laughing until our stomachs ached." I smile at the thought. " I was thinking we could have a 'Welcome Home' bonfire ,slash party ,slash mini rodeo this weekend. I know some people that are excited you are here " Aunt Jean looks over at me and smiles. " Ya know it's what your uncle would have done. That party animal. "
We chuckle ," He did like to throw a damn good party. But yeah, I think that would be awesome. I miss everyone."
" Alright great! We can make a list of stuff we need after we feed up later. We can run to town tomorrow. " she hops up, "I'll go message people and post it on Facebook. Gonna be a hell of a get together ." I laugh at how excited she got about planning this party. I am just glad to see her this happy. Uncle Westley's passing made a huge impact on Aunt Jean. They didn't have any kids so she was alone . She had no one.
My phone rings -
(Cami)Georgia-Ann fucking Miller. You fly in and don't bother to tell me when you get in?! What time did you get home?
(Me)Cami fucking Smith. I got here to Aunt Jean's at exactly 2:47pm.
(Cami)It is now 4:30pm. That is two hours past the time you should have called me. I am coming over to help feed up. Okay? Okay good I'm glad you invited me to help because I am pulling onto your driveway now anyway. Kisses. Love you, see you in like 30 seconds. *hangs up*
" Hey Aunt Jean, Cami is coming over in like 10 seconds" I shout through the screen door.
" Sweeeeet. Y'all can feed up everyone and catch up. Food instructions are on the chalk board in feed room. "
Cami pulls up just as I slip my muck boots on. I rush down the stairs and she doesn't even get the chance to shut her car off before she jumps out and we embrace. We ran to each other so fast we nearly fell. " God I missed you! Evanston sucks when you aren't here but I'm so glad you are here to stay this time and omg you have to come with us Wednesday to the rodeo in Opal. " she pauses to catch her breath. I laugh and try to get her to slow down.
" Alright Alright. I'll talk to Jean. Oh , and I think like Friday or Saturday we are having a big 'bonfire ,slash party ,slash mini rodeo' 'Welcome Home' thing. We just talked about it and she is party planning right now as we speak."
"Perfect! Oh girl, we have so much to catch up on!"
We talked and gossiped the time we fed the animals. She ended up spending the night and me, Cami, and Aunt Jean stayed up all night having a girls night. We did some late night riding, mani-pedis, face masks, and just laid up and talked for hours. My time here is going to be so amazing with these girls.
