I can't do it anymore! I need it, and I need it do badly. Later today I'm going to have to eat something. I'll go to the edge of town and ill hunt a dear or something, I don't know. I can never think straight when I'm hungry. How does James not go mad without it for so long? I'll have to ask him next time I see him. I just need some rest, and then I'll hopefully I'll get a 'bite' to eat...

( I can't believe I just said that)

Matt was leaning against the door of his house in the early morning darkness. He was trying to calm himself down after what he just went through. He didn't really know what happened but out of the cover of his eye he could see a person lying in pain on the ground; bleeding heavily. As Matt thought about it, he really wanted to help, but the situation would have just gotten messy. After he calmed himself down fully, he got up at took a shower. He needed to relax because, as he puts it, 'his inner monster was coming out'. As he was walking tiredly from the bathroom, he remembered what day it was. It was the anniversary of when he bit his younger sister.

It was 1825. It was winter and the roads were very slippy. Matts sister, Susan died suddenly. Matt was there when it happened. She slipped and fell through some ice over a lake and drowned. Matt just saved her and bit her, well what would you expect; would you try and save them? When she awoke, she was in Matt's house and was in pain. When Susan asked him what had happened, Matt explained everything to her; how he got bitten, who did it, and what happened to his body when it 'went missing'. At first Susan was in shock because we'll,  she didn't believe it. Matt also explained that she wasn't a full vampire, but a halfling; as vampires and old stories say.

A halfling is a creature who needs blood to survive but doesn't have any vampiric powers; with the exception of immortality. To become a halfling, when someone is bitten, a type of vampiric poison is injected into their blood stream. This poison either takes over all of your blood cells; making you a full vampire,  or it only takes over half and you only become a halfling. This mainly depends on the biter. A halfling doesn't need as much blood as a full vampire but it's still their main source of food.

Matt remembered all theses things like it was the back of his hand. He would say all of these things happenes yesterday. Matt decided; after he was dry and dressed, to go visit Susan because it was around twenty five years since they last saw each other face-to face.  It was around five a.m. when he decided to go. Even though it was early, Matt didn't need to sleep. It was one of the perks of being immortal.

its didn't take long until he got to Susans' house. She had to relocate a lot because of children causing trouble. She finally got a new permanent house to live in. Matt arrived at Susans' house at around 5:45 a.m. The house was in the forest near the edge of town. It was a very fancy place if you ask me. It was fairly big and it was only viewable by vampires and demons. As Matt got passed all the tall green trees and dead animal corpses that were possible meals; he got to the door of the huge mansion like house.

But the door was open, and not open like you'd have it in the summer; no, it was kicked in. The lock was broke and the door was hanging by the bottom hinge. Matt tipped the door slightly and it fell off, hitting the ground with a thud. He stepped in the doorway and he got a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach. As he went deeper into the house, the feeling got worse. The sound of laughing or shouting children should be heard; but now, or could hear a pin drop and it was very unsettling.  Matt was getting worried right about now.

'Susan should  be here', Matt thought. When he got to the children's bedroom at the centre of the house, Matt nearly fainted. He saw susan and her we two children, both around six years of age, on the floor not moving. 'No, no, no, no, no, no, no', Matt repeated aloud. He picked up her son, Michaels' body and held him close. Michael was still alive, but he was on the verge of death. The young boy looked up at his uncle as a tear fell from both of the boys' and Matt's eyes.

' Michael, wh. .. what happened?' Matt asked as his voice became rough and groggy. Michael was a smart boy for his age so his last words weren't a surprise but still came as a shock,

' you have nothing to feat but fear itself....'

And his small fragile body began to turn cold and limp.  Matt pulled the dead body of his nephew closer to his chest and broke down in tears. He thought over what Michael said as he died and he was right. In old stories of vampires, it's said that the sun or a wooden stake to the heart is the way to kill a vampire. Those methods are true but what Michael meant was this:

There are mean people in the world, and will use your fears against you to put you down; but with vampires, others will find out your fears and weaknesses, use them against you and defeat you when you're in a vulnerable state of mind. Vampires don't tell anyone their weaknesses because the world, is a dark place......
