Prologue

Just minus the long hair. Mahaba din naman ang buhok ko but not as long as hers, of course. I was homeschooled ever since.

The door opened and I saw my mother entering the room. She looked more sophisticated wearing her evening gown. Lumapit siya sa'kin and gave me a hug. She smilingly sighed.

"You're so beautiful, darling." her eyes twinkled with unshed tears as she looked at me.

I playfully rolled my eyes. She chuckled at muli akong niyakap. Napangiti ako. I hugged her back.

"No crying Mommy, or you'll ruin your makeup." pabiro kong banta sa kaniya.

"I just can't help it, anak. Parang kailan lang..." she reminisced.

It's my eighteenth birthday. Hindi parin ako makakalabas ng bahay, but at least I'll be able to see other people aside from our housemaids. My parents were both always busy running the family business. Palagi pa silang nasa abroad for business trips.

We were escorted by bodyguards habang pababa ng grand staircase. Hawak ni Mommy ang kamay ko. Sometimes I find my parents, especially my father Gilbert Torres, isang kilalang businessman and is one of the richest men in Asia, overprotective and paranoid.

"Intindihin mo nalang ang Daddy mo, anak. He's just worried that something bad might happen to you kapag hindi kami naging mahigpit. Isa pa, you're his only child and heiress." Mommy smiled.

I would always ask why can't I be just like other girls.

I just want a normal life. I also want to experience things. To know more about the world outside. And to fall in love...

He opened his arms for a hug. Lumapit ako sa kanya at yumakap. Sa kabila ng lahat, I'm still grateful for my parents. They just want to protect me. They just want what's best for me.

Still surrounded by guards ay lumabas kami at humarap sa mga dumalo. We were greeted by their applause. Napangiti ako. Mom and Dad were beside me.
