"I believe there are no random meetings in our lives - that everyone we touch, who touches us, has been put in our path for a reason. The briefest encounter can open a door, or heal a wound, or close a circle that was started long before your birth." ~Susanna Kearsley

That night, (Y/N)'s POV

I stood near a lit lamp post with headphones in my ears, but no music. I placed my hands in the pocket of my sweatshirt and waited.  Looking around, I took in my surroundings, just so I could be prepared for anything.

Just then, my phone vibrated. I answered, the call coming through my headphones.

     "Hello?" I quietly said.

Kaito's voice responded loud and clear. "The suspect just got off the subway, and he's headed your way. Riku is following him at a distance."

     "What do I do?"

"He has a backpack on him. We need it. The files are in there."

"Just the backpack? What about the suspect?"

"Once you have the backpack, Riku and I will take care of him."

I nodded even though he couldn't see me. "Okay, got it."

     He hung up.

I let out a breath of relief. Though I was trained and had much to be confident about, I didn't like being the one to actually hurt someone. It was a good thing us kids were given moderately easy missions for the most part. The agency needed the current suspect alive for questioning.

As I thought on, I thought about something that often crossed my mind. Why can't we leave these things to the heroes? Even though they're not official villains, shouldn't the heroes deal with this? Isn't it their job?

Presently, the suspect arrived on the scene. He crossed the street so that he was on the sidewalk across from me.

I started moving, still seeming inconspicuous.

I walked beside him as if I were going to pass by him, but then suddenly lashed out a kick to his legs.

The action startled him out of his wits as he fell to the ground.

I seized the opportunity to snatch the backpack, and ran away with it across the street just as Kaito and Riku dashed in to mug the man.

I  was running as fast as I could to the other side of the sidewalk. Almost there...

Suddenly, a car with a mad driver barreled out of nowhere and hurdled down the street at freeway speed.

I had just turned my head when. . .CRASH!!!

Someone's body had crashed into mine and both of us were flying across the street just as the psycho car zoomed by. I had only caught the last four digits of the license plate before my mind went fuzzy.

I was near unconsciousness by the time we plummeted onto the sidewalk. What the hell?

"Are you okay??" a voice spoke.

My blurry vision cleared to see a boy about my age on top of me, with deep concern in his eyes. It was all I could see since the street was dark.
