One Flame of War
A Sonnet By Parker Peterson
I once knew a boy,
Who liked to play with knives.
He could whisper to a flame, his toy,
It helped him to survive.
You see, this boy was sent to war,
A fight of life or death.
His mother, his mother poor,
She wept, she wept, she wept...
But the boy did not let death consume,
He fought, he hurt, but he defended.
He killed with his fiery fume.
And straight back to his mothers house, right after that war had ended.
That little toy that he had tamed,
Had saved his life, a burning flame.
