All This Time

I first met Steve Rogers in Brooklyn in 1942. I was working with Dr.Erskine to recruit the next super soldier.

I stood in the recruiting tent at the further technology expo, we hadn't got much traffic that night. I think it was because of that Howard Stark's new car, either way I digress, Dr.Erskine walked in and was followed shortly after by a skinny blonde boy who smiled at me.

I helped him commit a felony that day, after just fifteen minutes of knowing him. I don't really know why I did it, but I knew he deserved to be in the military.

Weeks later I was stationed in New Jersey at a training facility. I was to prepare the new arrivals' starter kits. That's when I saw Steve again, he had made it in.

"Well hello Steve glad to see you made it!" I said handing him his pack of clothes.

"Thanks, Dorothy." He smiled, I didn't think he would remember my name but he did.

Colonel Phillips requested that I be with the recruits during their training to address any major injuries that may occur.

During one particularly difficult training day, Dr.Erskine, Peggy Carter and I were in a Jeep and we pulled up to the group of recruits as they halted their run.

I heard the sergeant inform the men that who ever could get the flag down didn't have to finish the run.

Dr. Erskine and I watched as the men all fought to reach the top.

"Why do you think Rogers isn't trying?" I asked Dr.Erskine.

"Let's just wait and see." He cryptically spoke.

"Soldiers! FALL IN!" The sergeants boomed.

All the men ran into the formation except Steve.

"ROGERS FALL IN!" The sergeant Called again. Steve ignored and walked up to the flag pole, took out a pin and watched as the pole came crashing down. He removed the flag and handed it to the sergeant. Then walked to the Jeep for his ride.

"Nicely done there Rogers." I slid over so Steve could sit down.

"Thank you." I saw him blush.

"We'll drop you off at your barracks, okay Rogers?" Peggy confirmed.

"Sounds good Ms.Carter." He nodded.
