„So what am I going to do now, uh?" She said and a sadness he'd never seen in her eyes before appeared on her face. "I mean, I lost so much, how could I move on just like this?" She looked at him, waited for a response "Well you've lost before havn't you?" He took her hand. "But not like this. My heart feels like it could burst and it hurts like hell." She muttered and a tear made her way down her cheek and dropped to the ground. "But you are still alive. You made it through all that horrible stuff and you're here anyway." He stopped, looking concerned in her face. " But what matters at all when all my friends are dead?" she answered and sniffed. One moment he thought about the right words to say, then he started: "Even if most of the others can't be here with us, they will always be here in your heart. And they would be unbelievably proud if they knew what you became. Listen, we owe them to keep going, we have to show the world that all of them didn't die for nothing, that they are heroes and that we only survived because of their sacrifice. So we will be strong okay? We get through this like we have got through everything ever since." For the first time since days she smiled and it seemed like everything got brighter and the whole place lit up. She leaned her head on his shoulder, and both of them looked down to the others, working on their new home. "Look, I know it isn't easy for you, for all of us, and maybe it won't get any better for a while, but we are safe now, we are alive, and we will be alright. Somehow we will." He said this not only for her. He tried to encourage himself too.

The sun would go down soon and it almost hit the mountains, far away from them. It was a moment of peace, the first one since months. The warm, orange light of the sunset made the place nearly familiar and remembered him of the glade, so they both enjoyed the last minutes of warmth with every deep breath. He closed his eyes for a second. They really had to bring a lot of sacrifice in the past and they lost so many good people out there but they were free now. They had fought for a better future and it seemed like they won. "Aris, Sonya! Dinner is ready!" Frypan shouted from down there tearing Aris out of his thoughts. "We'll be there in a minute!" Aris screamed back. He stood up, reaching out his hand to help Sonya up. She took it. One last time Sonya pulled him into a hug, before they made their way to the others, already hanging out at the fire. Before they were too close to the gladers, Sonya held Aris at his arm for one more second. "I know, you lost a lot too," She said, "And I know you are incredibly strong, but I want you to know, that I am here for you and you won't lose me. Not like you lost Rachel." She tried to give him an encouraging smile and he made a step forward, nearer to her. "Thanks" He smiled. He took her hand and leaded her over to the main place, where Thomas and Brenda were already sitting near the fire: "Hey, you two, great to see you again!" Thomas moved to the left so they could sit together and they did. It would take time to make this place a real home and it would be hard work, but finally they knew it would be worth it, finally they had a real goal they could work towards. And they would wake up tomorrow without any fear or pain. The whole little village was filled with laughter and talking. Everyone was glad to be alive and someone took a guitar and started playing. Brenda and Sonya talked to Hariet about how to use the trees around them for their huts and Thomas laughed about a joke Frypan just made about his food. Aris saw Minho, standing in front of the Rock of members. They decided to write all the names of the fallen ones on this rock. He had written Rachels, Thomas Teresas, Frypan Chucks. He stood up and walked over to Minho till he stood next to his friend. Finally he could see whose name Minho had chiseled in the rough rock. It was Newt. He could nearly feel Minhos pain and sadness. He lay his hand on Minhos shoulder. Minho jerked and turned to Aris. His eyes were red from crying and his lips were shaking. "Hey, you're alright?" the question was stupid, Aris knew that but he didn't know what to say. "He has been my best friend for three years." Minho didn't answer Aris question, but he actually didn't have to. "We made it together through the maze and the scorch trials and the cure was right in front of us but I couldn't save him. I was too late. He was always there for me and I couldn't be there for him when he needed to be saved the most. "He sobbed. "It's all my fault." He cried the last words more then he said them. Aris took him by his shoulders, made him look right in his face. "No it's not. Listen, I didn't know Newt half as much as you did, but I saw that he hated the world like she was. He hated the anger, the greed, he hated living in fear and he died saving you. And I know that he loved you and Thomas more than anyone else. And he knew you both loved him too. You both meant home for him and he wouldn't want you two to be unhappy or to feel guilty for what happened. He was so brave, he wasn't afraid of dying, he was afraid of becoming a monster because of the disease and he was afraid of hurting you. I am sure, that he Looks  right from above in this exact moment and wishes he could be here with you and comforting you." He stopped, searching for words, explaining what he felt. He looked at the rock, covered with names. "Maybe all of the ones, written on this wall are gone. But we will always remember them, because they died for a better life. They died because they believed there would be a better place than at WICKDs. They are gone, gone but not forgotten." Aris had found the right things to say and Minho nodded at him, thankful for those encouraging words. One last look to this broken boy, one last pat on his back, then he turned and walked a few steps nearer to the ocean. The dark blue water rushed in waves against the cliffs. He had never seen the sea before. It was sedative and somehow calm spread out in his mind and soul and he knew, deep inside, that they finally arrived in the safe haven. They finally found a home and a place to be.
