PAIGE'S POV

"Careful, you almost missed a hurdle!"

I laughed over my shoulder as Tank tried to keep pace with me and my mare Trixy.
I almost felt sorry for him. So far he'd knocked over three arrowheads, had fallen into a coffin and had slipped into a brush fence. That was a high record, even for him.

"Easy for you to say!"He yelled back trying to keep himself stable atop his stallion, "you're not riding a four thousand pound hunk of horse ass!"

I laughed.

"I don't think Counter's too happy with your description of him."

As if to prove my point, Counter slammed his front hooves into the ground and bucked. Tank didn't even have time to look surprised.

"Tank!"

I galloped over to him and brought Trixy to a slow canter next to the fence he'd crashed into.
I couldn't suppress a giggle.

"Looks like fair maiden beats stable boy once again. You should be ashamed"

Trixy nickered in agreement.

He groaned and painfully extracted himself from the broken wood.

"Guess I'm gonna need a little more practice."

"Not on Counter you don't," I said seeing Tank's stallion trot off snorting in disgust.

I got off my mare and helped him to the well where he began washing the blood and grime off his arms and face.

"How was school today?" I asked swinging myself onto the cold concrete edge of the well.
I loved hearing him talk about his school as it couldn't have been more different from mine. I had to attend boring etiquette classes and study amongst nobility such as myself, whereas he got to attend a regular school where girls and boys could mingle freely and teachers got pranked on a daily basis.

What do I mean by nobility? Duchesses, Ladies, Princessess.
Yes, I was a princess; elegant, poised, graceful and completely miserable.
I had been forced to live amongst royalty, go to school with royalty, act like royalty and conceal my royal backside behind the castle walls at all times. Never had I set foot outside castle grounds, nor would I until such a time as I would get married and be whisked off to yet another prison. Oh joy.

"For once, totally awesome," he said lifting his shirt to dry his face.
I politely averted my gaze.
"I had two free periods and Nile got a face full of basketball during practice."

I smiled. He had told me so much about his friends I felt I knew them all in person.
Before I could open my mouth to ask anything else, I heard Amphora's chirpy voice call for me.

"Your Highness!"

I sighed and hopped down from the well.

"Busted" Tank mouthed to me before making his way over to the two horses to return them to the stables.

I walked towards her.

"What is it Amphora?"

She curtsied before me, "Your parents wish to speak with you," her gaze trailed over my riding attire.
"I thought your father forbade you from riding."

I smirked, "He did, I didn't listen."

She grinned.

"Well, best get changed then your Highness, how else will they believe I interrupted your piano lesson?"

I shot her an appreciative smile and ran off to my quarters to change back into one of my numerous annoyingly puffy gowns.

Lady Amphora was a dear and made living at the castle full time all the less painful for me. She kept all my secrets and unprincess worthy desires, shared in my frustrations and snuck me the occasional tub of ice cream when no one was watching.
Unfortunately, she wasn't my only aid.

"Your tardiness of late has been most unbecoming your Highness! Your parents have already been waiting a full seven minutes and..."

I groaned as Hainz, my equerry, bustled me along the wide brightly lit corridor to the throne room, blabbing on about my extremely inappropriate behaviour the past few weeks and how he knew without certain doubt I was on a mission to sabotage his chances of getting promoted.
I couldn't help rolling my eyes.

"...you know the amaranth gowns are reserved only to be worn on Wednesdays whereas today is a Thursday!" He took a quick whiff at my collar, "you're not wearing the same one two days in a row are you? Because if you are..."

I could feel my brows twitching with irritation.

"Hainz!" I complained and he stopped his yapping to scowl at me a brief moment.

"Just be on your best behaviour in there," he sighed and straightened my tiara.

"Yes Hainz, don't worry about it," I winked at him, "Your chances of getting a promotion already went up in flames a week ago anyway."

And with that comforting remark, I pushed open the doors to the throne room before he could make it past his mangled squeak.

Hola! So this is the first chapter of my first ever story on Wattpad! Give it a break if it's lame I mean, which first chapter isn't?
Also I'd like u to know I'm not making my whole story about crazy castle people speaking like they're from the 1940's so u have nothing to worry about.
Hmm...wonder what the King and Queen want to tell Paige, oh whatever, we all know that already ( it's in the description for those of you who ignored it like I would...wait what?) ITS ABOUT HER MARRIAGE! TO A TOTAL DWEEB!
Stay tuned.
