My first color was you

The sunlight shined through the trees brightly that day as I sat under the oak in the school yard during lunch. It was a normal Friday and I had been drawing instead of eating. Even with an absence of color in my life I had always loved to draw. The different shades of grey and black blended so well on the paper. Though I knew the names of all the colors I had been using I couldn't imagine the drawing in any of them since I had never seen them. But this was normal for someone my age, I hadn't had my match yet and until I did I was perfectly content with my grey world.

"Brrring!" The bell shook me out of my own head and I got up and headed to class. I was a girl who easily blended into the crowds at school, in a sea of grey that wasn't a hard thing to do. So I followed the sea to class as usual, until something quite unusual happened.

It was during the last class of the day when Violet came up to me. She was considered popular so her talking to me was odd, but what was even weirder was that she invited me to a party that night. I wasn't typically the type to go to parties but the fact that I had just been using a colored pencil of her name seemed like a good enough reason to go.

"Get ready already Skye!" Hunter was always impatient but I guess every gay girl needs a good straight guy and he was mine.

"Shut up, I'm almost ready!" I may have yelled a bit too loud due to the death stare that followed but it didn't matter. I was still in a bliss that I had been invited to a party, especially a party with a lot of attractive girls.

After another few minutes I was finally ready to go. Hunter practically draged me out to the car so I can't go back and change my outfit, again. I'd just have to settle for my little black dress and my leather jacket.

We arrived at this mansion and I heard the music so loud I couldn't hear myself think. We hopped out of Hunter's truck and made our way towards the pounding sounds resembling popular music.

The first person to approach us was Lilac who was of course friends with Violet. More Hunters type then mine so he started a conversation.

"So what's this party for anyways?" He asked the ditzy girl who was almost too distracted to notice what he said.

"There's this new girl who just moved in here, her names Rosa." She explained as if it was something he should have already known.

I was done with this conversation and figured Hunter could handle Lilac alone. I moved throughout the lawn trying to make my way inside to get something to drink.

Violet practically ran into me on my way through the kitchen dorway. When she realized it was me she turned around and grabbed my arm dragging me into the kitchen.
"Rosa this is Skye, Skye this is Rosa she's new and this is her house!" She introduced us then walked away.

"H-hi" Rosa stuttered, quite adorably. She just looked like the shy good girl, grey jeans and a grey sweater over a white button up. Her skin tone a few shades darker then mine and her hair a much darker shade that looked like silk.

"Hello darling, don't you look beautiful tonight." Her cheeks darkened as she blushed at my bold words. I learned a long time ago it's always worth it to tell a girl she's beautiful.

"I'll see you later." I said whispered and I winked before grabbing a drink and heading back outside.

Hunter found me again and so I told him about Rosa. At first he was a bit interested that I had just met a beautiful girl but as soon as I said I thought she could be gay he backed off.

Sadly I didn't end up seeing her later but the entire weekend, as cliche as it sounds, I couldn't get her off my mind. All I wanted was to just be able to talk to her again. It was fair to say I had a crush, which was a rare occurrence especially after only seeing her once. She just seems special

The next time I saw Rosa she was sitting under my tree. I was amazed and quite literally stopped in my tracts; I didn't move until I almost got ran over and then I finally walked towards my tree.

"Hello again." I startled her out of her book daze.

"Hi, nice to see you again." This time she seemed to radiate confidence and it just made me like her more.

"You seem much more comfortable today." I slowly sat down next to her, just close enough that it wasn't weird.

"Parties just aren't my thing." She replied shifting so she faced me a bit more. She picked her book back up and we fell back into a comfortable silence as she read and I drew.

After quite awhile I had finished my drawing of the day, this time the picture included the girl right next to me with a small smile and an unnamed book.

We did this for a few weeks; she always sat quietly with her book and I would draw. We didn't talk much only to say hello or when I would shamelessly flirt with her. That is until the very last day of school.

"Hi Skye!" She was adorable, as usual, with her hair down curling around her face. I loved when she wore her hair down.

"Hello my darling Rosa," I said much happier then normal before I sat down a bit closer then usual and continued, "I have a proposition for you."

"And what would that be?" She had started going along with my flirting a few weeks before.

"You and I should go ice skating tonight. What do you say?" I tried to say as confidently as I could hiding the fact I was terrified she'd say no.

"Sure." She replied. To say I was shocked was an understatement. The rest of the lunch period went by as usual but this time we both couldn't help but smile.

I made Hunter come over after school to help me prepare. He didn't always seem like the best friend since he never sat with me at lunch but when I needed him he was always there.

"You look too grey!" He yelled as I tried on something else to wear.

"You're so mean!" I yelled back as I stuck my tongue out at him and went back to the wardrobe. I pulled out another outfit this time just simple jeans and a dark sweater.

"Perfect!" He said as soon as I walk out of the bathroom and I was so happy to be done with the fashion show that I fell right back on to the bed.

"Get up! You have a date!" Hunter started yelling again. So I slowly got up from the bed and went downstairs to grab my keys.

"Have fun!" He yelled again as he got in his truck and drove away. I got in my car and began driving to the ice rink.

"Hello darling." I whispered as I walked up behind her. She spun around and my heart stopped. She looked even more beautiful then at lunch, something I didn't even think was possible.

"Hi Skye," she replied, "you look very nice tonight in something other then your leather jacket."

"Well thank you, you look beautiful as well." I tried to stop the blush from rushing to my cheeks but to no avail. Thankfully with no color it was hard to see.

We got our ice skates and I moved out on the ice seamlessly like I had been doing for years.

"So you've done this before, well I haven't so be nice." She chuckled as she steped out on the ice and almost fell. I immediately moved over to help her.

I grabbed both her hands and skated backwards pulling her along with me. We skated until she got the hang of it and was choosing to hold my hand rather then needing it.

We talked for awhile and skated around till almost no one was left on the ice and I decided to make my move. I pulled her over to the middle of the ice and grabbed her hands again.

"Rosa I've been wanting to tell you something for awhile now," I started out quite nervous, "if I haven't been
obvious enough I really like you and I just wanted you to know."

"Oh, Skye I ummmm.... I like you too." She mumbled out barely audible.

I pulled her in and kissed her soft lips, it was by far the best kiss I had ever had. I slowly pulled away and opened my eyes. The red blush on her cheeks was the best possible first color I could ever see.
