Chapter Three
~
I found myself thinking of the night I'd killed her father, the way she had ran from him, God it scared me. No, her father hadn't killed himself, I had killed him with my own two hands. As I carried Shawnee toward Kurt's car, I looked down at her pale face, the reason she was so pale was because she never saw light when she was young. I had thought Shawnee was dead when I made it to her, there was so much blood. When she looked at me for the first time, I felt helpless. She wasn't supposed to die, she was supposed to take her parent's place.
As the years passed, I had found myself falling for her, and falling hard. Everyday since I'd fallen, I found myself thinking of how our children would look. My blond hair, their mother's green eyes. I loved her with all my heart, and now, she would never trust me again, mentally or even in her heart. I'd never hear her say she loved me again.
I carefully slid into the back seat, Shawnee still in my arms. I sat her on the seat next to me.
"You're really not IN love with her, are you boss?" Coleman asked, turning slightly in the passenger seat to see me.
"Do I ever lie, Coleman?" I asked, not looking up from Shawnee's still face.
"No, sir," he said.
"Then there's your answer," I said calmly. For the rest of the ride, no one spoke a word.
When we got to the place I'd stay in with her, I took a deep breath, hoping that Shawnee wouldn't recognize the place, except this time, she'd be under a close eye, at least until she was trained.
I laid her on a couch, very carefully, I may have to destroy her spirit, but I never wanted her to be alone.

The room was dark, and smelled like spring flowers. I didn't want to open my eyes, I hoped that I had been dreaming and that Shane hadn't killed my father, but I knew I wasn't dreaming.
My stomach churned, angry, I opened my eyes carefully. I gasped when I saw where I was-- the cabin I'd lived in until I was almost sixteen.
"Shawnee," came a voice I didn't recognize. "Boss, she's awake."
"Thank you Coleman," Shane said calmly, walking over to the couch. "Shawnee, are you hungry?" he asked, reaching out to touch my cheek.
I flinched away from him. "Don't," I pleaded in a whisper.
"Alright, I wont touch you if you don't want me to," he said, lowering his hand to his side. "Are you hungry?"
I curled up in a ball and started to shake. I didn't say a word.
"Shawnee? Are you okay?" Shane asked.
"How could you? Did you kill my mother too? Did you try to kill me?" I whispered.
"No Shawnee, I didn't kill your mother and I didn't try to kill you either," he whispered. "I wouldn't do that to you."
I looked up, someone had brushed and braided my hair while I slept. My eyes locked on Shane's blue ones. My lip trembled. "Promise?" I asked.
"I promise. I was sent to get you, you were supposed to start your training at sixteen," he said carefully, not knowing how much my parents had told me.
"Training for what?" I asked.
He stuck his hands in his pockets and shuffled his feet. "Coleman?" he asked.
