On May 23 2010, there were people out and about. They were going here and there doing their normal everyday routine. However, if any of these normal people happened to walk through a certain park on that blustery day, they would have noticed two things; one was that it had began to rain, which was enough to ruin anyone's day. The second thing was slightly more off-putting, because a man vanished into thin air, and a young girl fell to the ground in tears. This can be even more disturbing than sudden unfortunate weather conditions, as everyone who happened to witness the event would later agree.
It all started on another blustery day in 1612. A man of about 23 was standing on a street corner, his name was Gabriel Avery. At that moment, he was waiting for Leena Blacklake. She was 16 and very frightened as she raced under the cover of her hood, on her way meet her soon to be husband. When she reached the street across from Gabriel, her heart lifted slightly as she thought of the future that awaited them. About the child she carried and how they would be able to raise it without her father trying to keep her and Gabriel apart. She raised her hand in greeting to Gabriel who gave her a huge smile in reply. She raced across the street, to avoid the early morning carriages that were starting to fill the sleepy town.
They reached out for each other as Gabriel helped his bride-to-be off the muddy road. As soon as she is safe he let her go, they had to take every precaution to avoid drawing attention. In their small town where everybody knew everyone, they had to be as stealthy as possible. Quickly they half ran, half walked to the river, scarcely saying a word. Leena kept her head bent low, her arms wrapped around her swollen belly. Soon they smelt something foul, and they knew they were almost at the water. The putrid stench got stronger as they scampered over the slimy cobblestones. A smell like rotting things and sewage, something that would have some people running in the other direction, had these two lovers picking up their pace. Finally they saw it; the boat that would bring them to the new world, to their new life. With its grimy hull, and sails that were a most disgusting yellow color, like puss from wound; their salvations name was written in peeling paint on the side.
