Mara's POV:

I shelved the books correctly in the science fiction section in the library, proud of the neatness. That was the last I had to do. Unless there were more, of course, but who comes to the library? I plopped down on a cushioned chair and pulled a heavy textbook onto the wooden table. What were we doing in math? Geometry? I scanned the page and saw random numbers and shapes. The numbers probably have some meaning to them, but...

Who's good in math? I swear I'm only failing in that one subject. I heard the door open, guessing it's just a random person that actually read, but then someone sat in the chair to my left. I looked up to see him wear sunglasses and a black hoodie with his hood up. Strange. But not too strange, seeing it is getting colder.

"That was such an amazing game last night, right?" He said in a quiet, but over excited voice. Now it is completely awkward. He smiled at me nervously and I took that as message that he wanted me to respond. Yeah, right. Like I would respond to a stranger. I looked down to my textbook again.

"Hey, come on. Please. I just need you to pretend like we're friends." He said while looking behind him. The door opened, revealing a large group of girls and he quickly turned away.

I raised an eyebrow. Do people actually come to a public library?

"Where is he!" A girl screeched, harming my ears. There was a 'shh' coming from a librarian with her finger to her lips. The girl didn't care and neither did the others behind her. They stormed in and looked around.

"Uh... so, what did you get in that test?" What test? Is this guy stupid? I flipped a page, hopelessly looking at the page. I'm going to fail math.

"Girls, please. This is a library. If you're looking for someone, please calm down." The librarian is having a terrible time. Poor lady, but it's not like I could do anything.

"I'm trying to find a boy. Seventeen. 6 feet and 2 inches and 168 pounds. Dark brown hair. Light brown eyes. And—" she sighed. "So handsome." I felt like throwing up and seeing from the person next to me, he is frightened.

I turned on my phone and saw it to be 5:00. Yup. I'm out of here. I packed my books up in a hurry, ignoring the hushed voice of the other boy that was scrabbling up from his chair and about to follow me. My backpack now hanged on my back and out I go. Quickly walking down the sidewalk, I stuffed my hands in my jacket's pockets.

"Hey. Do you mind if I walk with you for a bit?" Why was the boy still here? I walked faster, hopeful for him to get the message of leaving me alone. He walked slightly faster with his longer legs, easily catching up to me. I am not short. Actually, I am the normal height for a teenage girl that is still growing, but he is a boy. Stupid long legs of his...

I took my phone out and went to the notes app. No many people use it, but I kinda have to. I furiously typed on it and turned around. I shoved my phone in front of his face and he took a step back in surprise. He read it.

"Leave you alone? What? Can't you say that yourself instead of typing it?" He questioned, but I just backspaced and typed a few more words.

No. I'm mute, you idiot.

"Okay, I now understand, but you didn't have to call me an idiot!" He wore a flabbergasted expression making me roll my eyes.

He crossed his arms as he waited for me to finish my typing. I needed to finish this up quick; I have to go home soon before it gets dark.

Of course. So talking to a stranger like we're long lost buddies is not being an idiot. That was a stupid thing you did.

"You know, for a mute, you do have a very big... personality." I could see him trying to be nice.

And I could see dark brown hair. He can't be the one they were looking for. I mean, anyone can have dark brown hair. Though...

If he was, what greater reason was there to leave? I turned around and ran. My backpack was heavy, so I was certain he would catch after me, even with the headstart.

"Wha-? Oh. Come on!" He said and I heard him say and I thought he would follow me, but he didn't. I turned back— not that I cared if he wasn't going to chase me— and saw girls giggling with seducing eyes. He glared at me, but gave the girls a wide smile.

I smirked back and walked away.

I collapsed onto the couch, tired. I just cleaned the whole house and let's just say that that isn't an easy job. At least it isn't a mansion. Just two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a living room. My father owns a coffee shop, but it is small. Not many know about it, but enough that we can afford to pay the bills and food. Then again, we don't even have a washing machine for clothes.

"Hey, sweetie." My dad came in and kissed me on the forehead. "Have you eaten yet?" I shook my head and got up to the kitchen. He followed me and saw plates on the kitchen. He smiled and sat down. I took the seat across from him. "You could've just eaten without me. I could be late, still cleaning up." I shrugged and ate slowly at my food, unlike him attacking his noodles.

There was no more talking. Just forks hitting the plate and chews were heard.

I'm sorry. I don't update. I don't do anything.

I did follow everyone who just put this book into their reading list. Thank you so much for actually considering it. And how did you even find this book? The world will never know.

I have to say. I hate this chapter. It seems rushed and everything. I might redo it, but I already had this, so...

I actually forgot I had this. Umm... but it's summer now and I should update more. Please bare with me. I will try to have the next chapter tomorrow. Thank you. Comments are greatly appreciated.
