BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Still half asleep I roll over wondering if I should throw my alarm out a window or get up. I'm sure I can sleep for a few more minutes, it's not like I have plans today or any-OH MY GOD I HAVE MY FIRST DAY OF WORK TODAY! Jumping out of bed, finally awake, I rush off to the bathroom. Okay so what kind of look do I wear at a restaurant job? Do I go bold and loud? Or sweet and soft? I lay out all my makeup palettes on the counter thinking of which one would be lucky enough to be used today. I decided to go for a subtle soft look. I push my curly hair out of my face and pull it up in a bun. As I'm about to apply my eye shadow I stare at myself for a second examining myself. I never noticed how golden brown my eyes were before. The sun coming in from my bathroom window made them look like they were on fire. I sometimes wished though I had my dad's grey eyes though. I found the color grey to be cold, but peaceful. However, I inherited my mother's eye color, oh how beautiful she was. My skin was always pale too especially during the winter time. Which explains why I'm so pale right now. I touch my cheeks admiring how rosey red they naturally were. People always thought I was blushing, but in reality that's just how they are. My father was always very pale. I got his complexion while getting his rich brown hair color. I just never really paid attention to how I always looked. I wondered if anyone noticed these features of myself too. After some time I put on my work clothes. I walked down to my kitchen where I heard jazz music being played. Oh lord was that one of my favorite genres. It was my parents favorite too. Mom was cooking waffles which smelled heavenly. Man did I miss skipping out on food. Sadly I didn't have time to eat. Once I'm finally out of the house I got into my hunk of junk aka Barbra. Barbra was my car that I've had since I left highschool and started college. She was the only car I needed in my life. By that I mean she was the only car I could afford to have on a budget for a college kid, or soon to be one. As soon as the keys get placed in I attempt to get her to wake up. She grunts and makes a loud EEEEEEEE noise which is music to my ears. Mainly because it means she's working which is good news to me. Getting onto the road I decided to turn on the radio to catch up on news that's been going on. "This just in another drug bust has been made. The police are not sure why so many have been occurring, but this isn't the first time a big out break like this has happened. It's been a continuous thing over the past few years. You would think by 2039 this dilemma would've been fixed. Officials say that the master mind behind this drug distribution is still unknown. This has been the biggest mystery to happen yet! Stay tuned for more news on this matter to come!" The radio switches over to some ads. I start to wonder how anyone could get away with selling drugs for that long without getting caught. Never understood why someone would do it to begin with. I pull up into one of the workers parking spots. Sitting there staring at my clock on the radio reading 11:45 a.m. Only 15 minutes early not bad, I glance up at the sign reading Boss's Meat & Fish House. I can't believe they actually hired me with little work experience. Assuming I spent enough time contemplating and gawking at the sign and clock I went into the place. I strolled over to the back room and quietly stood near my fellow coworkers. They all stopped talking and stared at me like they have never seen a human before. I was shy as it was, but I couldn't stand having all eyes on me. It made my cheeks grow redder that what they were suppose to be. I tried to slightly smile at them. "Hi I'm Carmen Linn, it's nice to meet you all!" I said as I tried to not shake from nervousness. "Well Carmen, I'm Brittany and this is Alex, Zo, Erica, and there's a few other workers, but they're off today." Brittany spoke loudly. I took notice to their appearances quickly to make sure I remembered each of their names. They all were unique characters in themselves,. Brittany had reddish hair, spoke loudly, and stood like she was uninterested in her job. Zo had brown hair just like mine except it was much lighter and thinner. I had thick hair which sucked a lot. Erica was taller than all of us, but shorter than Alex and she slightly slouched in her stance. Then there was Alex, who kept staring at me, he was super tall like 6'1 if I had to guesstimate. He had dark black hair, with pale skin just like mine. He had lots of freckles like all over him from his arms to his neck to his face. His eyes were a very light blue. Before I could say anything to him, Brittany grabbed me by the arm and made me follow her around to show me how working on a salad bar works. As she was showing me the ropes I kept meeting eyes with Alex something about him seemed off. It's almost like there was more than what meets the eyes. I presume I wasn't paying close enough attention to Brittany because all of a she began screaming at the top of her lungs at me. "Hey NEWBIE I understand you're still a teen girl who loves boys, but right now it's time to be working not gawking!" She said it so lividly. Taken back by the comment she had made I could feel my face become red with embarrassment. "Actually I'm not trying to gawk it's just your one coworker, Alex is his name right? Keeps staring at me it's kind of hard not to notice." I mumbled while looking down at the salads. She didn't quite hear me, but she got the gist of it. Brittany who was still speaking pretty loud looked back at him and then at me and began to say "Hey listen kid, he's kind of weird, but he's nice. He stares at everyone just get used to it." I didn't want to get use to it though. It just was so bizarre to have someone you hardly know stare you down like you're the last cookie in the bakery. For the rest of the time though I just tried to focus harder on what all Brittany, Zo, and Erica told me to do and what not to do. I normally was very good at ignoring people, so that's what I ended up doing to him. He never spoke a word to me the whole time I was there which was nice because then I didn't have to act nice. Don't get me wrong I'm normally a sweet gal to everyone, but I hate having to act a certain way towards someone when I feel the complete opposite. Work was a complete shit show, for me at least. I've never worked before especially during rush hours and now I was wishing I hadn't picked a job that involved it. I wasn't sure how any of them there could do it all. My coworkers just seems to be on top of everything so quickly, when they did were working it looked so easy, like way too easy. I felt so alone during my shift too considering I didn't know any of them and none of them tried to get to know me. I just kept to myself and waited for the clock to hit 4 p.m. Once my shift ended I walked out to my car, fiddling with the keys, all of them looked similar it was hard for me to tell which one apart. Finally finding the correct key I climbed into Barbra and got her to wake up again. Instantly I turned on the radio because I hated to drive in silence I just couldn't stand it since it reminded me of how lonely life could be. First channel that came up was the news and all they were talking about were more drug busts. I flipped the station over to jazz and began to let myself become immersed in the sound of saxophones and trumpets.
