"Bro, why are you smiling at nothing?" My sister laughs, as she looks at me.
"I just feel a lot more excited about our holiday, I've got a really good feeling." I say, as I smile back at Cassie.
"Oh, I'm really excited too and I'm totally taking the window seat this time." She says, as she tucks strands of her light brown hair behind her ears.
"I'm glad you two are so excited, and I thought it was my turn to take the window seat." My mother chimes in, with a beaming smile on her face.
My mother is possibly the best woman on this planet from when we were kids to now she has always done her best for us, her short and stylish blonde hair bounces smoothly from the air conditioning as she kisses my father on the cheek. Speaking of my father, my relationship with him hasn't ever been as great as he never really wanted children (well not as much as my mother did anyway) and when I was a kid it really showed, I know he loves me and my sister very much but sometimes he isn't the nicest to be around.
That being said my family live comfortably thanks to him and we've always been thank full for him working so hard, I think I criticise him a lot despite the fact that we're both very similar people, in mood and temperament. I sometimes think I'm not the son he wanted, I spend a lot of time alone reading and listening to music instead of playing sports and working towards a good future for myself, we tend to argue a lot about it.
"You look very serious honey, are you ok?" My mother says, as she half-smiles at me.
"I'm fine mam, I'm just nervous about the flight." I smile, as I go back to staring at the seat in-front of me. Lying was something I hated doing, especially to my parents but I couldn't exactly say "Oh yeah, sometimes I feel I'm not the ideal son my dad wanted." It's whatever though, I know in the end he will accept me for being the person I am.
The car is quickly heading towards the airport as the sun peaks through the clouds. I feel really excited to escape for week from the mundane routine of school and schoolwork, I've never really excelled as much as my sister and my grades are average at best, I guess I'm just not interested.
I've had a slightly more fortunate time as I've never been bullied for anything more than having a close group of girl friends as I have a difficult time talking to the boys in my class, I get called the G word a lot but it doesn't really bother me as I'm not insecure about that sort of thing.
Thirty minutes have passed as we reach the familiar airport terminal, I grab my black and red travel bag and help my mother and sister with theirs, as we get our bags out of the boot of the car my sister and I wave goodbye to our father, as our mother kisses him goodbye. Walking into the warm airport building we get our tickets checked and head straight into the security area.
After we pass through security we decide to head to the seating area and wait for our flight. With an hour to go we decide to grab a drink while we wait. Airports have always made me incredibly nervous, just as travelling always has.
"Here Georgie." My sister says, as she hands me my order of an ice cold coca-cola.
"Thanks Cassie." I smile warmly, as I take a sip of my drink.
After we finish our drinks the gate number for our flight is displayed on the flight board, and we begin to head towards the gate for our flight. After we check in to our flight, we place the bags in the overhead compartment and take our assigned seats.
