Drowning slowly
In a body,
Though not my own.
I lurk within
A familiar stranger
With unsmiling eyes.
Drowning slowly
As people pass through
they do not notice.
I do not belong
Within this skin,
Pale and supple.
I do not speak
In a voice I recognize,
I hear myself cry out
In pain, I say,
"Don't leave me here!"
They turn, and
Still, I am -
Drowning slowly.
