The window broke with crash, sending broken glass raining down upon us. I sit up slowly through the pain, taking in the life-threatening stunt that we had just pulled off.

"Hey, Vye," I whisper, searching through the rubble for the girl who had come with me, "Vye, come out!"

I hear a shuffle somewhere further off in the debris, and make my way over to the source of the noise as quickly as I possibly could.

"Vye? Vye are you okay?" I call, desperately hoping for an answer. Finally, after it felt like I'd been searching for hours, I response came. A low, pain-filled moan.

"Vye!" I yell, running through the rest of the ruble that separated me from my cousin. Her small frame rises up, nearly every inch of her body covered with a fine powdering of drywall from the ceiling. She looks around for a moment, confusion clear on her face.

"Cassie?" she asks. I nod before gripping her hand and helping her up.

"Come on Vye, we have to go." and then we were running out the door, hands clasped tightly together, trying to escape the horror-filled building that had been our home for many years. Running away from the place that did everything it could to try to turn us into blood-thirsty monsters.

Vye and I were part of the fee lucky ones who weren't affected by the tests or medicines that were forced down pur throats. I turn to look back as we run, looking upon that building for what I hope to be the last time in my entire life.
