Taylor Allen Smith. The sound of that name used to make my heart race, sending tingles from my ears to my fingertips. Seeing his curly brown hair, and his diamond eyes made me weak in the knees.

Not anymore.

The funny thing about guys in high school is that they may seem different, but deep down they're all the same. Parker Adams: Flemming High's star quarterback. Led me on for weeks, until finally, he found a better toy to play around with. Shay Davis: The biggest computer nerd you will ever meet. It may be hard to believe, but we dated for two months until I found out he cheated. He said it had something to do with me "not giving him enough attention". I could give you 12 other examples, but I'm just going to get right to the point. No matter how sweet they pretend to be, the second they see something "tastier" they'll move onto the next best thing.

The most recent guy who had let me down was Taylor. Freaking. Allen. Smith. I used to dream about us having a future together! I truly believed that he may have turned out to be better than the others.

He let me down.

"Hey! Remi! Wait up!" Aria called me from behind. I stopped in my tracks, my hand leaving the handle to the front door. I turn around reluctantly to see my best friend since middle school clumsily jogging over to me. She makes me laugh all the time whether she means for me to laugh or not.

"I already told you! I'm not going to your dorky book club!" I yell back at her. Ever since our junior year started, she's been trying to get me to join the book club she started. It's now May. Their motto is "Have an adventure!" Which is totally ironic since all they do is read about them instead of going out and actually experiencing one. Don't get me wrong, I've always supported her dream of becoming an author, but I'd rather stick to sports.

"Oh, come on Mimi (Meemee)! You have no idea how much this would mean to me." She's reached me by now, and she's trying to guilt me with her pouty face.

"I've already told you a million times! I don't like books Ari (Ar-ee)." I try to stay strong, but her pouting is kind of getting to me.

"I go to all your field hockey games and most of your practices. Can't you just do something I like for once?"

"You go to my practices because you have to." I try to say it as flatly as I can, but it comes out as more of a whine.

"Well, how else am I supposed to get a drive?" She says, mocking my tone.

I stomp my foot like a two-year-old and say fine, dragging out the ending. It makes me happy when I see how excited she got that I said yes.

"I can't believe Rue died at that part..." A dark-skinned guy in a blue hoodie said, staring off into space. at one point, I swear a tear was dripping down his cheek. The rest of the group nodded sympathetically, and I tried not to roll my eyes. Apparently, I failed 'cause Ari elbowed me in the side, her eyes burning a hole in my soul. I mouth "sorry" to her, and go back to spacing out, not really listening to the rest of the conversation.

"Sorry I'm late guys, what did I miss?" The new voice zones me back in. I look up, and I see a guy that's about 5'10, and as muscular as can be. My jaw must've been to the floor because the next thing I knew, Aria's hand was snapping my mouth shut.

"Ahem," Aria cleared her throat. "Uh, Taylor. Please meet my best friend Remi Johnson." Now it was my turn to elbow her. I really didn't need her to do that.

"Hey, mind if I sit there?" He asks, his eyes shining, making it impossible to think.

"Um, yeah sure! Go ahead." I move my bag off the desk beside me just as he slides the chair back. I could feel his broad shoulder nudging me while he got situated in his seat. Maybe I might grow to like this book club.
